Configure DFS resources using the Configuration Wizard

Use the Configuration Wizard to add new DFS resources to ARM or modify existing configurations.

We strongly recommend assigning local collectors to the file servers involved in the DFS to improve scanning performance. This is only possible with the Configuration Wizard and not with the old configuration application.

Start the Configuration Wizard and log in.

  1. Turn on the advanced mode.

  2. Click Configure new resource or select an existing DFS scan configuration and click Edit.

  1. Select File server.

  2. Click Add resource.

Enter credentials that are used to scan the DFS and click Next.

  1. Select the DFS you want to scan.

  2. Click Next.

In the Shares step you can select the namespaces of the DFS to be included in the scan.

  1. In the Basic step, leave the Server type setting to DFS.

  1. In the DFS settings area, make the collector assignments.

  2. Recommended: File server assignment
Assign collectors to be used for scanning the file server. If possible, assign local collectors. In the case of a Windows file server, you can also install the ARM collector service directly on the file server if the file server workload permits.

  3. Site assignment
Assign collectors to be used for scanning a site. This collector is then used to scan the file servers of the site for which there is no direct file server assignment.

  4. Remove a collector assignment.

You can assign one or more collectors. If multiple collectors are assigned, the scan is always executed using only one collector. ARM uses the collector with the lowest CPU and RAM usage. The location of the collector is not considered for the decision. For optimal scanning performance, assign only local collectors per file server if possible.

  1. Click Next.

  1. Optional: Assign a collector through which the DFS structure is scanned. If not set, the ARM server is used as the collector.

  2. Click Next.

Set a schedule for scanning and click Next.

  1. Check your settings.

  2. Click Save to save your settings. The next scan will be started according to the schedule.

  3. Click Save & Start to save your settings and start the scan immediately. The scan will run in the background.
