Identify folders with special protection

Subdirectories often contain disparate access rights compared to its parent directory. Also, disabled inheritances are often an indicator of highly restricted directories.ARM displays all directories that contain the disparate access rights.

  1. Log in to the Access Rights Manager application.

  2. In the toolbar, click Resources.

  3. In the Resources column, maximize File server and select the targeted file server.

  4. In the right column, click the Report drop-down arrow and select Report on paths with different access rights.

  5. In the Report on paths with different access rights window, enter the report settings.

    1. In the Report configuration fields , enter a report name and optional comments regarding the report.

    2. In the Objects box and Resources tree, select a report range.

    3. Click Start to generate the report.

  6. Open the spreadsheet file with Microsoft Excel or another spreadsheet application.

  7. Configure the spreadsheet.

    1. Open the spreadsheet file in Microsoft Excel or another spreadsheet application.

    2. Click the resource tab.

    3. SolarWinds recommends using a filter to analyze the Inheritance activated column. If set to Off, the report shows all directories with disabled inheritance.
