Prepare the Windows file servers

When you run FS Logga on a Windows file server, the file server requires the following components:

  • Filter driver
  • Collector
The Collector collects resource and data system from Logga scans and transfers that data to the ARM server for processing.

When you monitor Windows file servers, no dedicated (or external) collector server is required. The file server operates as a collector.

The required components are included with the ARM installer and can be installed in one step.

If Windows Failover Cluster resources should be monitored, install both components on each cluster node.

When you replace hard disks or mount other hard disks (setting up Volume Mount Points), disable FS-Logga before you perform these tasks. When you are finished, re-enable FS-Logga. You can enable and disable FS-Logga using On/Off toggle switch in the ARM configuration.

Install FS Logga on a Windows file server

  1. Ensure that the file server hosting FS Logga meets all system requirements.
  2. Download the ARM installer from the SolarWinds Customer Portal.

See the ARM Installation and Upgrade Guide for instructions.

  3. Copy the ARM installer into a local folder. Do not copy the installer on a network folder.
  4. Right-click the installation file and run as administrator.

The setup language is automatically selected to match the language of the operating system for the following languages: German, English, French. Otherwise English is used.

  1. On the Setup Wizard home page, select Advanced Installation.
  2. In the second step of the wizard, select Custom Installation and select the following options:
    • Collector
    • FS Logga
  3. Follow the instructions in the wizard to complete the setup.

The collector service and FS Logga filter driver must be installed on every Windows file server that you want to monitor.

  4. When the installation is completed, add the collector to the ARM configuration.

See Install additional collectors for detailed instructions and additional information.

    In summary:

    1. Log in to the ARM Configuration application.
    2. In the Configuration page, click the Collectors tile.
    3. Enter the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the collector.

Your logon credentials are not required.

Ensure that the server name can be resolved by DNS or edit the hosts files. See Collectors in foreign domains (non-trusted) for more information.

    4. Click + to add the collector to the ARM configuration.

    5. Check the connection status.
