Add Aruba orchestrators and edge devices

Add Aruba SD-WAN orchestrators, wireless controllers, and edge devices to SolarWinds Observability.

Requirements

  • Supported devices - Aruba EdgeConnect

  • Network Collector 2024.4.1 or later

  • Edge devices and orchestrator must be monitored using the same Network Collector

  • Edge devices are monitored only via API.

An Aruba EdgeConnect orchestrator is limited to 250 requests/5 seconds for a polling engine. For details, see Aruba API polling limit was exceeded.

Add an Aruba EdgeConnect orchestrator

  1. In SolarWinds Observability SaaS, click Add Data at the top.

  2. On the Add Data dialog, click the Network tab, and click Aruba orchestrators and edges.

  3. On Select Orchestrator, review the options, ensure that Add a new orchestrator is selected and click Next.

  4. Select a network collector or deploy a new one.

  5. On Define Orchestrator Node, provide the polling name or IP address of the node.

Optional: If you want to easily identify the device in SolarWinds Observability SaaS, specify a display name.

  6. Select an authentication method, provide details, and click Next:

    • API Token: Log in to you Aruba orchestrator and copy the API Token you want to use to identify your orchestrator in SolarWinds Observability.

    • Username & Password: Provide your Aruba orchestrator credentials.

  7. On Summary, review the information and click Submit.

The device is added for monitoring. To monitor edge devices, complete the steps for Discover and import edge devices for an Aruba orchestrator.

Discover and import edge devices for an Aruba orchestrator

  1. In SolarWinds Observability SaaS, click Add Data at the top.

  2. On the Add Data dialog, click the Network tab, and click Aruba orchestrators and edges.

  3. On Select Orchestrator, select Use a monitored orchestrator, select the orchestrator you want to add edges for, and click Next.

SolarWinds Observability SaaS now starts discovering all edge devices managed by the selected orchestrator. This may take a few minutes.

  4. On Select edge devices..., select the devices you want to add for monitoring and click Next.

If an edge device is already monitored by the selected Network Collector, the selection is blocked. The check box grayed out.

  5. On Summary Edges, review the information on devices to be added and click Submit.

The edge device(s) are imported for monitoring.

Troubleshooting

No Orchestrator Edges

If you see this message in the Add Aruba Devices wizard after you have selected an orchestrator, it may be caused by one of the following issues:

Orchestrator issues

The orchestrator is unreachable, non-responsive, or it does not report any edge devices.

To resolve the issue, ensure you can access the orchestrator from SolarWinds Observability and that the orchestrator manages edge devices.

Network Discovery issues

Network Discovery timed out due to a huge amount of data reported by the orchestrator.

To resolve the issue:

  1. In SolarWinds Observability SaaS, navigate to Settings > Network Discoveries.

  2. Re-import edge devices:

    • Find the discovery profile, right-click the vertical ellipsis, and select Import all Network Devices and Hosts.

    • Alternatively, you can click Edit in the vertical ellipsis. This opens the Add edge devices step of the Add Aruba Devices wizard. You can select the devices to import and complete the wizard to import the selected edges.
