Mute alerts for a period of time

Mute an alert to prevent notifications from being sent. You can mute an alert for a specified time period (for example, during a maintenance window). You can also mute an alert until it has been resolved.

Mute all alerts triggered by an alert definition

The option to mute all alerts triggered by an alert definition is available for all alert types. You can do this from the Alert Settings page or the alert details view.

From the Alert Settings page

  1. In the left pane, click Alerts > Alert Settings.

The Alerts Settings page lists all configured alert definitions.

  2. Locate the alert you want to mute.

  3. Hover over the table row, and click the vertical ellipsis () in the far-right column. Then click Mute.

The Mute Alert Definition dialog opens. For alerts on entities, the dialog shows the number of entities in the scope of the alert definition. This alert will be muted for all entities.

  4. Under Mute for, select a time period or click Until resolved.

  6. Click Mute.

The upper-right corner of the alert details view displays the muted icon, and notifications for this alert are not sent.

Mute alerts triggered by a specific entity

For entity metric alerts, you can suppress notifications triggered by specific entities. You can suppress notifications from a specific alert definition, or you can suppress all alert notifications for that entity. For example, if a server will be taken down for maintenance, you can suppress notifications for all alerts triggered by that server for the specified time period.

You can do this from the Active Alerts page or the Alerts tab on the entity details view.

The entity must currently have an active alert triggered by it.

  1. Do one of the following:

    • To open the Active Alerts page, click Alerts > Active Alerts.

The Active Alerts page lists all active alerts. The Alert Source column identifies the entity that triggered each alert.

    • To open the Alerts tab, open the entity details view for an entity. Then click the Alerts tab.

The Alerts tab lists all active alerts for that entity.

  2. Locate an active alert triggered by the entity.

  3. Hover over the table row, and click the vertical ellipsis () in the far-right column. Then click Mute.

The Mute entityName for alertName dialog opens.

  4. Under Mute for, select a time period or click Until resolved.

  5. To mute all alerts that could be triggered by this entity, select Also mute entityName notifications in other alerts (labeled in the image above).

  6. To mute this alert for all entities that could trigger it, select Also mute other entities (labeled in the image above).

  7. Click Mute.
