Configure DNS Query integration

DNS Query is a Telegraph integration. You can use it to monitor your DNS records to ensure that the Domain Name System continues to route traffic to your websites properly. See DNS Query Input Plugin at GitHub.

To integrate DNS Query with SolarWinds Observability SaaS:

  1. In SolarWinds Observability SaaS, click Add Data at the top.

  2. In the Add Data dialog Intro, click the Integrations tab, and then click DNS Query.

  3. In the Add DNS Query dialog, select a host with the SolarWinds Observability Agent you want to use for DNS Query and click Next.

To only display Agents running in a Kubernetes cluster, click the List only Agents... toggle.

If you want to install a dedicated Agent on a dedicated host, add the host and then add the DNS Query integration. See Add a self-managed host.

If you prefer using Docker, see Run the SolarWinds Observability Agent as a Docker image or Kubernetes deployment.

  4. Provide a Display Name.

  5. Review the Collection Interval and adjust it if necessary.

  6. In Servers, type an IP address for a DNS server you want to monitor. To add more servers, click the Add button and add another IP address.

  7. Review the network protocol and adjust it if necessary. The default option is UDP.

  8. Review the record type and adjust it if necessary. The default option is NS.

  9. Review the timeout and adjust it if necessary. The default value is 2 s.

  10. Review the DNS port and adjust it if necessary. The default value is 53.

  11. Click Deploy to deploy the changes to the Agent.

  12. When the installation is complete, you can continue to observe DNS Query data. Use the buttons on the Summary screen.

To view metrics collected for DNS Query, click Analyze > Metrics and search for DNS Query. See Metrics Explorer for details.
