Inventory

The Inventory tab for database monitoring in SolarWinds Observability displays the managed and discovered database instances in your environment. Managed database instances, or databases monitored with SolarWinds Observability are displayed by default. Discovered database instances, or databases detected by SolarWinds Observability through interactions with the host-monitoring, or other interactions, are displayed on the Discovered tab.

Click Databases > Inventory to open the Inventory tab. Use the Inventory tab to take an inventory of your monitored database instances, and add any discovered databases that are not yet monitored with SolarWinds Observability.

Take inventory of your managed database instances

Open the Inventory tab to view all of your monitored databases with SolarWinds Observability. The Managed tab is displayed by default. On the Managed database instances tab, you can view the number of databases along the top, followed by a list of all the managed databases instances and metrics. Database instances are organized by descending health score by default, with higher health scores displayed first followed by lower scores. The following metrics are available.

Metric Description
Name The full name of the database instance with host details.
Health The health score of the database instance for the selected time period.
Database Type The type of monitored database (MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Redis).
Agent The status of the database agent. A green checkmark indicates the Agent is currently connected. A yellow exclamation mark indicates that you need to check the status of the deployed agent. A red exclamation mark indicates a failure with the Agent.
Queries The number of queries executed on the database for the selected time period.
Throughput The average throughput of the database in queries per second for the selected time period.
Load The average load of the database aggregated as a percentage for the selected time period.
Active Alerts The number of active alerts for the database.

Review unhealthy database stats

Click the health score of the desired under-performing database instance to open the Overview for your selection. The Overview displays more detailed information about your database that's separated into three sections: Basics, Additional Details, and Timestamp Details.

Basics

The database name, type, and database version number is displayed under the Basics section. Take note of your database version number; follow best practices to keep your database up to date.

Additional details

Additional details displays the cloud provider (if applicable), the query capture method, and Agent details. Click the Agent name, or plugin name to display the Agent for the database Agent. See Agent settings for more information.

Timestamp details

Timestamp details displays the date and time when the database entity was created, last updated, and last seen. Take note of when your database was last seen; if your database was last seen several hours ago this could be indicative of a situation requiring your attention.

Organize your database inventory with tags

From the desired database Overview, click the Tags tab to add tags or modify tags for your database.

Add tags

Categorize your database entities into relevant groups by adding tags. For example, if you have several production databases, you could add a tag of 'prod' to these databases to group them together. With the tag added to related entities, you could search for 'prod' on the Inventory tab to view all of the relevant entities at one time.

  1. To add a tag to an entity with no tags, click Add tags.

  2. Enter a tag Key and tag Value. Click Add tag. Repeat this step for any tag you want to add.

  3. Click Save.

Modify tags

  1. Click Modify tags.

  2. Modify any existing tag Keys or tag Values. Click the X of an existing tag to delete it.

  3. Click Add tag to add a new tag, and enter a Key and Value. Repeat this step for any tag you want to add.

  4. Click Save.

Manage your database display name

  1. Click the vertical ellipsis of a database instance and click Edit to open the Edit Database Instance window.

  2. Enter the changes to your database's display name in the Display name field.

  3. Click Save.
