• AWS: For the API Gateway services that do not have certain metrics available, the unavailable metrics are not included in the Entity Explorer and dashboard tables.

SolarWinds Observability SaaS offers the following new features and improvements in January 2023.

Explorers and dashboards

Healthscore widgets in dashboards, area overviews, and entity explorers now include an improved tooltip that lists the metrics that negatively impact the score, as well as the time the healthscore was calculated.

General updates to the Home page and Entity Explorer have been added to improve usability and performance.

The Add Observability Data dialog has been updated to improve the on-boarding workflow.

Application performance monitoring

Improved connections between APM services and database instances with a link from the Traces Explorer’s Trace Details pane to the related query in the Queries Explorer, and several links from the Queries Explorer to the related service and trace. See Databases updates for more information.

New APM Data Volume dashboard shows the volume of data collected from all your services. Click Dashboards in the left pane to find the new pre-build dashboard.

Service and Transaction details have an improved visualization of metric values.

Calling services are presented in the Service’s topology map.

Added a distinction between Span Duration and Trace Duration in the Trace List view. This applies to Traced Queries, Traced Remote Calls, and Traced Caches Calls.

The Trace List view can now be filtered by Transaction.

The Inspector Panel for a selected span's details was improved to include numbers for the current position of the span and the total number of spans.

Database monitoring

Queries Explorer

Added links to easily move from a query to the related trace, when available. Click the Trace ID in the query samples table to open the related trace in the Traces Explorer, or click Details for links to the related trace’s service entity and transaction in the Entity Explorer, and to the related trace in the Traces Explorer.

Added the option to view an Explain Plan for the selected query sample. Query Samples now display collected Explain Plans with query syntax highlighting.

Added Explain Plan Tables. Click Tables on the Query Samples page to open the Explain Plan Table. The Explain Plan table displays the sample’s Explain Plan in an easy-to-read detailed format.

Added several filtering options:

• Filter by Errors, Warnings, Missing Indexes, or Slow Response Times.

• Filter by specific query text with the query text search bar.

• Filter by only newly recorded queries with the New queries only toggle.

Database Area Overview

Added several filtering options:

• Filter by Database type or Database Name with the filter drop-down menus.

Profiler

Added new profiling categories. Organize recorded queries by the following new options:

• Databases - Query and size data grouped by database name.

• MySQL Processlist Queries - Total connection count and time for client IP addresses from the MySQL PROCESSLIST.

• Query Verbs - Query data grouped by query verb, such as SELECT or INSERT.

Added the Choose Columns button which opens the additional columns window.

Added new columns for ranking categories.

Digital experience monitoring

Added Real User Monitoring (RUM) feature, tracking visits to your website and monitoring your user’s experience as they interact with your website or web application. RUM is supported for both multi-page websites and single-page applications. To start monitoring your website’s real user experience, purchase a Digital Experience Observability - RUM subscription.

Uptime checks can now include SSL certificate monitoring. When enabled, a new widget in your website’s Availability tab displays the number of days until your certificate will expire, and alerts can warn you if your certificate is about to expire.

Host infrastructure monitoring

Self-managed hosts

Host entity details view in Entity Explorer was improved:

• Text in columns for no results found was changed to a dash.

• Further columns added, such as OS type.

• Improved Processes tab for hosts.

• Alerts tab for hosts now displays both active and inactive alerts to provide overview of all configured alerts for a host.

• New widgets were added for hosts based on the SolarWinds Observability Agent: CPU utilization by state and Memory Utilization by status.

• New widgets were added for all hosts: Disk Utilization and Disk Types.

• Host entity details view in Entity Explorer was improved.

Kubernetes

The SWO K8s Collector was updated to use the industry standard Helm package manager. Helm allows for easier deployments, upgrades, and changes to the collector on your K8s containers. To see the latest enhancements and avoid an incomplete view of the data in your dashboards, update your configurations and deploy the latest version of the SWO K8s Collector. See Upgrade Kubernetes monitoring.

Azure and AWS

Metric data for detecting anomalies in AWS and Azure was improved.

The previous limit of 100 AWS entities per service was removed.

The AWS Auto Scaling, Azure Scale Sets, and Azure SQL Database entities are now supported and can be viewed in the Entity Explorer.

The AWS and Azure summary dashboards now include new widgets, including Top 5 Accounts (Regions), Top 5 Accounts (Metrics Ingested), Top 5 Accounts (Entities), Top 5 Accounts (Bad Health Score), and All Entities Health Distribution. See Hosts widgets for more information.

The table title in the AWS and Azure summary dashboards was updated to reflect the total count of cloud account entities.

The metric columns for AWS and Azure entities in the Entity Explorer were improved.

The Alerts and Active Alerts charts in the Azure and AWS widgets were improved.

New filter attributes were added as available checkboxes for AWS and Azure in the Entity Explorer.

Network monitoring

Network area overview displays information aggregated from all monitored network devices, including diagnostics and flow details.

Interfaces status history is available on the Interfaces tab.

Interface Details views now include the Flows tab displaying ingress and egress traffic for the interface.

Added support for wireless controllers and associated thin access points.

Alerting features

Historical alerts are now available from the Alerts side navigation menu.

Notifications are now automatically sent when an observed object returns to a normal state after it has previously alerted a defect status.

Agent management

SolarWinds Observability Agent supports on-boarding, management, and control for OTel receivers, such as NGINX. See Configure NGINX integration.

Integrations monitoring

Add NGINX data wizard available.
