Dashboards

SolarWinds Observability includes pre-built system dashboards and custom dashboards to provide at-a-glance insight into the data you are monitoring.

System dashboards are pre-built dashboards that display the key performance indicators for native third party integrations, as well as certain entity types. System dashboards that summarize additional data for a monitoring area are also available.

Custom dashboards are a tailored set of widgets showing data for selected entities, created by you or a member of your organization. Custom dashboard options include standard dashboards and analysis dashboards.

To create a custom dashboard, see the following topics:

View a dashboard

In SolarWinds Observability, click Dashboards in the left pane. Click System to view pre-built system dashboards or click Custom to view the dashboards created by you or a member of your organization. To view only the dashboards created by you, activate the Custom tab and then click to enable the Only My Dashboards toggle.

To find a specific dashboard from a long list of dashboards, type your dashboard's name in the Search Dashboards field.

Once you have found the dashboard you are looking for, click the dashboard's name to view or edit the dashboard. You can then filter or group the data that shows in all widgets of an open dashboard and change the time period for the collected data to display in the dashboard.

Filter data on the dashboard

Click the Filter metric streams field and add the tags and values or type text as needed to limit metric data. The filter is applied to all widgets on the dashboard. If a widget was created with a filter applied, the dashboard-wide filter is applied on top of the widget-specific filter.

Group data in widgets

To group measurement streams that have the same value for one or more attributes, click on the Group by drop-down list, and select one or several attributes to be applied to the whole dashboard. The data in time series and proportional charts are grouped based on the selected attribute. If a widget was created with a group by setting applied, the dashboard-wide setting is applied on top of the widget-specific setting.

Change the time widgets display data for

Widgets display data collected during the specified time period. To change the time period, click the drop-down menu in the upper-right corner and choose how much historical data to display.

  1. To stop widgets from updating, click the pause button in the top right corner of the dashboard.

  2. To change the time period, click the drop-down menu in the upper-right corner and choose how much historical data to display. You can choose to view all recent data for standard lengths of time, or to view data between two dates.

To show data from a custom time period, choose Custom. In the calendar that appears, click the starting date of your time period and click the ending date. The time period's start and end times default to the current time. To change a start or end time, click the clock next to the time you want to change and click the desired time.

Next time you open the dashboard, the time settings last used will be applied.

Compare with a previous time period

Click the Compare button located next to the time period drop-down menu. This allows you to see both the currently selected time period, as well as a previous time period simultaneously on one chart. There are three options to choose from:

  • 60 minutes prior

  • 24 hours prior

  • 1 week prior

The previous time period is shown on the chart in pink.

Duplicate a dashboard

Every dashboard can be duplicated as a copy. This lets you update or remove widgets without the risk of changing the original dashboard.

  1. In SolarWinds Observability, click Dashboards in the left column.

  2. Find the dashboard you want to duplicate. See View a dashboard for how to find the dashboard.

  3. Click the vertical ellipsis at the end of the row and click Duplicate, or click to view the dashboard, then click the vertical ellipsis in the upper-right corner of the dashboard and click Duplicate.

  4. Enter a name for the duplicated dashboard in the sidebar, then click Duplicate.

Delete a dashboard

  1. In SolarWinds Observability, click Dashboards in the left column.

  2. Find the dashboard you want to modify. See View a dashboard for how to find the dashboard.

  3. Click the vertical ellipsis at the end of the row and click Remove, or click to view the dashboard, then click the vertical ellipsis in the upper-right corner of the dashboard and click Remove.

  4. Confirm the message to delete the dashboard. The dashboard and widgets are deleted.
