Start and stop the SEM appliance and agent

This section describe how to stop or restart the SEM appliance and the SEM Agent on Windows.

Stop or restart the SEM appliance

The following steps also apply to the SEM VM.

Do not right-click the host and choose power off or shutdown guest. You can corrupt the SEM database and file system if you do not shut down SEM properly.

1. Open the CMC command line.

   See Log in to the SEM CMC command line interface for instructions.

2. Type appliance at the cmc> prompt.
3. Either:
   • Shut down the VM:
     1. At the cmc::appliance> prompt, type shutdown.
     2. Follow the commands to shut down the SEM VM.
   • Restart the VM:
     1. At the cmc::appliance> prompt, type reboot.
     2. Follow the commands to restart the SEM VM.

Stop or start the SEM Agent on Windows

1. Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.

2. Type services.msc, and then press Enter.

   The Services window opens.

3. Scroll down and select SolarWinds Security Event Manager Agent.

4. To stop or start the service, click the Stop or Start buttons near the top of the window.
