Add and customize widgets in the KSS NG Dashboard
You can use the Dashboard in the Kiwi Syslog Server NG (KSS NG) web console to add and edit widgets. Widgets show detailed syslog data that you can edit based on you or your organization's priorities. You can customize, remove, add, and drag and drop widgets as needed.
Add widgets to the Dashboard

From the Kiwi Syslog NG navigation bar, click Dashboard.

Click the User display drop-down to select which display you want to view or edit.

Click the vertical ellipses () in the upper-right corner. Under Add Widgets, click Add New Widget.

Select which syslog statistic you want to create as a widget. Click Customize to customize the widget now, or click Create Widget.
Customize widgets in the Dashboard
- Click the vertical ellipses () in the upper-right corner and toggle Edit Dashboard.
- Click the Edit view icon () in the upper-right corner of the widget you want to customize.
- Review and make changes to the customizable options. See Customizable widget options below for details.
- Once you have finished customizing your widget, click Save Changes.
- Click the vertical ellipses () in the upper-right corner and toggle Edit Dashboard again to exit the editing view.
Customizable widget options
You can use customizable options within widgets to display common or specific syslog data tailored to your or your organization's needs. Review the customizable values below.

Title and Description
|
Title and Description includes options to customize the widget title, subtitle, link URL, description, and header. You can use the widget link URL to link to another page that contains more relevant or specific information about the widget data. |
Chart Options
|
Chart Options includes options to customize the chart type, content format, location of the legend, and the legend format. You can use chart types such as pie, donut, vertical bar, or horizontal bar charts. Content format includes raw (the number of messages), sum, or percentage formats. |
Data source
|
Data source includes the option to define the source of the data that you want to view in the chart or tile. |
Property and formatting
|
Property and formatting includes options to change the format for the displayed units and the value. The value can be selected from a set of default values. |
Widget-specific options
Message volume
- Time series metadata — Time series metadata includes options to customize the time span, location of the chart legend, the name of the y-axis label, and the chart type.
- Severity level values — Each value includes options to customize the severity level description, as well as indicator data that designates the value's data source. You can drag and drop each value to determine the order the values will appear in the chart legend. You can add up to 8 severity level values. Events
In the Events widget, you can customize the property and formatting, as well as the description for each column based on Events values. For more information about the Events values, see Values in the Events widget.
Counters
In the Counters widget, you can customize the refresh rate, description, thresholds, and background color rules, as well as tiles that are based on Counters values. For more information about the Counters values, see Values in the Counters widget.

Refresh
|
Refresh includes options to refresh the Counters widget with the default refresh time (5 minutes) or create a custom refresh rate. The custom refresh rate ranges from 1 second to 24 hours. |
Description
|
Description includes options to customize the label, background color, and units you are measuring. |
Thresholds
|
Thresholds includes the option to set thresholds for values that reach Warning or Critical levels, based on the units you previously defined in Description. |
Background color rules
|
Background color rules includes the option to have KSS NG automatically change the background color when the value meets a certain condition. You can customize the condition and background color. |
