Activate a Kiwi Syslog Server NG license key

After you install Kiwi Syslog Server NG, you can access all features for 14 days without a license. After the 14-day trial period is over, you must enter a license key to access licensed features.

Activate licenses online

If Kiwi Syslog Server is connected to the internet, you can activate the license online. If your server does not have internet access, see Activate licenses offline.

To activate your license online:

  1. From the Kiwi Syslog Server NG navigation bar, choose Admin > Licensing.

  2. Click Edit License.

  3. Enter your activation key. If you do not know your activation key, complete the following steps to retrieve your license activation key from the Customer Portal.

    If you are evaluating KSS NG or have received a license activation key from a SolarWinds representative, continue with Step 4.

    1. Log in to the SolarWinds Customer Portal. If you do not have a SolarWinds account, see Access the Customer Portal to create an account.
    2. Choose Licenses > Manage Licenses.
    3. Locate the license, and expand it.
    4. Copy the activation key.
  4. Complete the remaining fields with your name and contact information.
  5. Click Activate.
  6. Restart Kiwi Syslog Server NG.

Activate licenses offline

Microsoft .NET frameworks 4.8 and 8.0 are required to activate licenses offline.

Manual license activation is necessary if your server does not have internet access or is having activation issues due to a proxy server.

To activate your license online, you will need to log in to the SolarWinds Customer portal to generate a license key file and download the SolarWinds License Manager application.

  1. On a computer with internet access, log in to the SolarWinds Customer Portal. If you do not have a SolarWinds account, see Access the Customer Portal to create an account.

  2. Click Downloads > License Manager and click Download License Manager.

  3. Save the downloaded .zip folder and transfer the file to the computer you want to activate offline.

    Offline activation requires a transfer of files between the KSS NG server and a computer connected to the internet. You can use email, shared storage, or a USB flash drive to transfer the files.

  4. On the computer you are activating offline, unzip the folder and run the SolarWinds License Manager installation wizard.
  5. Once the installation is complete, run the SolarWinds License Manager application.
  6. Locate Kiwi Syslog Server NG and click Activate.
  7. Select "This server does not have internet access. Guide me through offline, manual activation", and click Next.
  8. Click Copy Unique Machine ID.
  9. Paste the Unique Machine ID into a text editor. You will use this ID to generate a license file.
  10. Complete the following steps to obtain a license activation file from the Customer Portal.

    On a computer with internet access:

    1. Log in to the SolarWinds Customer Portal.
    2. Browse to Licenses > Manage Licenses.
    3. Locate Kiwi Syslog Server NG.
    4. Click Activate license manually.
    5. Enter the required contact information. The activation key is entered for you and cannot be changed.
    6. Enter the Unique Machine ID copied from Step 8.
    7. Click Generate License File to download your license key (.lic) file.
    8. Transfer the license key file to a location on the computer you are activating offline.
  11. On the computer you are activating offline, open the activation window in the License Manager and browse to the saved License Key File location.
  12. Click Next to apply the key.
  13. Once the activation has been confirmed, click Finish.
  14. Restart Kiwi Syslog Server NG.
