Kiwi Syslog Server NG Getting Started Guide

Kiwi Syslog Server NG (KSS NG) is a separate instance from legacy Kiwi Syslog Server. Even if you have installed legacy Kiwi Syslog Server, you must install KSS NG separately.

The purpose of this guide is to help you configure KSS NG to receive syslog messages and SNMP traps from network devices, such as routers, switches, and firewalls, and to familiarize yourself with the most commonly used features of KSS NG.

This getting started guide assumes that you have purchased or are evaluating KSS NG, and that you have installed KSS NG.

Checklist to get started with KSS NG

	Install KSS NG If you have not installed KSS NG, see the KSS NG installation guide for system requirements, planning checklists, troubleshooting and installation instructions.
	Migrate rules to KSS NG Migrate rules from a previous legacy KSS or KSS NG configuration to your new environment.
	Configure devices to send messages to KSS NG Syslog-capable devices must be configured to send syslog messages to KSS NG, as shown in this example of configuring a Cisco switch. If KSS NG is not receiving messages, you can troubleshoot KSS NG.
	Create rules Rules specify the actions KSS NG takes when it receives a message that meets the specified criteria. For example, you can have KSS NG send an email, forward the message, log the message to a file, or run a script.
