Kiwi Syslog Web Access — Legacy
This documentation is for legacy Kiwi Syslog Server versions 9.8.3 and older.
Kiwi Syslog Web Access is a web-based access portal for legacy Kiwi Syslog Server (KSS), which provides a web-based portal to view, filter, and highlight syslog events logged from legacy KSS. This legacy KSS Web Access guide provides an overview of product installation, configuration, and system requirements.
Installation and configuration
Kiwi Syslog Web Access is part of the legacy Kiwi Syslog Server installation. The following procedure applies to both fresh installs of legacy KSS and adding Web Access to an existing legacy KSS setup.
If you are installing Web Access as an addition to an existing legacy KSS setup, you will need to uninstall and reinstall legacy KSS. Web Access can only be installed in a bundle with legacy KSS. Uninstalling legacy KSS will not overwrite the settings or data in your current setup.

If you are adding Web Access to an existing legacy KSS setup, uninstall the application by navigating to the original installation folder and run the
uninst-Syslogd.exe
application. Click Uninstall.The default installation folder isC:\Program Files (x86)\Syslogd

Log in to the SolarWinds Customer Portal and download legacy KSS under Latest downloads for your products. See Access the Customer Portal if you do not have a SolarWinds account.

After the download is finished, run
Kiwi_Syslog_Server_<version>.setup.exe
from the ZIP folder.If the latest supported version of .NET Framework is not installed, you are prompted to install it. Click Download and install this feature. Then restart
Kiwi_Syslog_Server_<version>.setup.exe
. -
If you agree with the license agreement, click Next.
- Specify whether you want to install legacy KSS as a service or an application, and click Next. You will be able to install Web Access with either option.
- Installation as a service logs and processes messages whenever the server is up and the service is running, even if you are not logged in to the server.
- Installation as an application logs and processes messages only when you are logged in to the server and the application is running.

If you are installing legacy KSS as a service, specify the account to install the service, and click Next.

Check Install Kiwi Syslog Web Access. Check Create a new Web Access logging rule in legacy KSS if you want to automatically create a Web Access rule. Click Next.
- Select the shortcuts to create, and click Next.

Specify the installation location for legacy KSS, and click Install.

The installer displays status messages as it installs legacy KSS. The Kiwi Syslog Web Access wizard will automatically start. Click Next.

If you agree with the license agreement, click Next.

Select your preferred Kiwi Syslog Web Access shortcut options and click Next.

Specify the Kiwi Syslog Web Access installation location and click Next. The default installation location is
C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Kiwi Syslog Web Access
. -
Specify the website root folder and port number that will be used to access Kiwi Syslog Web Access. The default website root folder is
C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Kiwi Syslog Web Access\html
and the default port is 443. -
Choose if you want the Windows firewall to make an exception for Kiwi Syslog Web Access.
If you do not make an exception for Web Access, you may be unable to run it. -
Create a user name and password, and click Next.

If you are ready to install, click Install.

The installer displays status messages as it installs Kiwi Syslog Web Access. Click Finish once it completes.
Once Kiwi Syslog Web Access has completed installation, you can view Kiwi Syslog Web Access with the IIS Manager, which is a native Windows application. Use the website root folder and port numbers you specified above.
