Set up DNS options in KSS NG

You can view or edit input options and setup information in Kiwi Syslog Server NG (KSS NG) based on DNS settings.

To configure DNS options for the sending device:

  1. From the KSS NG navigation bar, choose Setup > Settings. Click DNS.
  2. Check Resolve the IP address of sending device to convert the IP address of the sending device into a more meaningful hostname. For example, an IP address such as 203.50.23.4 will show sales-router.company.com instead.

The resolved hostname is then used in the display and other actions. The same hostname is used in the Hostname field when you add a filter to a rule.

  3. Check Remove the domain name (only show the hostname) to remove the trailing domain name from the resolved hostname in step 2. Using the same example, sales-router.company.com will show sales-router instead.

Enabling this option is useful when you only receive messages from a single domain or to reduce the amount of space used by the host name in the scrolling display. This option also effects the Hostname field used for all the logging actions.

  4. Click Apply to save your changes.
