Monitoring your applications and environment is a key capability of Hybrid Cloud Observability and is also available in a standalone module, Server & Application Monitor (SAM). Hybrid Cloud Observability and SAM are built on the self-hosted SolarWinds Platform.

File Existence Monitor

You can assign this SAM application monitor template to a node to test if a file exists at a specific location on a target server.

By default, this template uses the following ports:

  • TCP port 445
  • UDP port 445

You can use this template in conjunction with other File-related templates. For example, use it with the File Count template to count how many files in a directory have a specific extension, and then set up thresholds and alerts based on the value.

Prerequisites

Access to WMI or Windows file share on the target system is required.

Credentials

Windows credential with read access to the network share and file on the target system.

Component monitors

The main component monitor in this template is a File Existence Monitor that checks if a specific file is available at a specific location on a target server. For details and field descriptions, see File Existence Monitor.
