New features and improvements in SAM

Server & Application Monitor 2024.4 includes the new features in version 2024.4 of the SolarWinds Platform. For more information, see the SolarWinds Platform 2024.4 Release Notes.

Template Updates

  • SAM now includes the ability to use global variables for database names in templates, making it easier to change the names of monitored databases.

  • A new application template is available to monitor MongoDB 5+ for Windows and Linux.

  • SAM now identifies Virtual Host entities being monitored as nodes. This enables users to assign a template to a dynamic group based on Virtual Hosts entities.

Installation or upgrade

For new SolarWinds Platform deployments, download the installation file from the SAM product page on https://www.solarwinds.com or from the Customer Portal. For more information, see Get the installer.

To activate SAM in an existing SolarWinds Platform deployment, use the License Manager.

For upgrades, go to Settings > My Deployment to initiate the upgrade. The SolarWinds Installer upgrades your entire deployment (all SolarWinds Platform products and any scalability engines).

Escape backslash causes process monitor to fail

Process monitor fails when command line contains backslashes as parameters.

Resolution or workaround: There is no workaround at the moment. SolarWinds is working on resolving this issue in a future version.

This version of Server & Application Monitor no longer supports the following platforms and features.

Type Details
MAPI User Experience Monitor MAPI User Experience Monitor, a component monitor that can be added to an application template, is deprecated as of SAM 2024.2. It is still available and supported in the current release, but will be removed in a future release. Deprecation is an indication that you should avoid expanded use of this feature and formulate a plan to discontinue using the feature.
