Monitoring server configurations is a key capability of SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted (formerly Hybrid Cloud Observability) and is available in the Advanced edition.

Linux Security and Permission profiles in SCM

The Linux Security and Permissions profile in Server Configuration Monitor (SCM) is the predefined profile for monitoring security, groups, and user permissions.

Path Description
group /etc/ Monitors the group configuration file, which defines the groups to which users belong.
login.defs /etc/ Monitors configurations that are used as defaults by user and group utilities.
pam.conf /etc/ Monitors the configuration file used by PAM to define user access to server resources and applications.
* /etc/pam.d/ Monitors the configuration files used by PAM to define user access to server resources and applications.
passwd /etc/ Monitors the file that contains the attributes of all users or accounts on the system.
*.conf /etc/security/**/ Monitors the configuration files that control the resources available to user processes. Often used by PAM modules.
* /etc/selinux Monitors the configuration files that control the behavior of Security Enhanced Linux.
World Writable Files List of files that are world writable.
