Monitoring server configurations is a key capability of Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and is also available in a standalone module, Server Configuration Monitor (SCM). Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and SCM are built on the self-hosted SolarWinds Platform.

Excluding binaries from content collection in SCM

Server Configuration Monitor (SCM) excludes binaries from content collection. Users generally do not want to have SCM retrieve and store binary files, as they are unreadable for humans reviewing content comparison. However, users do want to track changes to binaries that involve modified times, file attributes, and information about who made the change. Therefore, SCM now excludes detection of binaries based on the content itself, and collects information on binaries only by extension. A new Centralized setting BinaryFilePatternList is a "|" (pipe) separated list of file patterns such as *.zip to mark as binary. The binary content is not sent to SCM, and when you compare versions, the following message about binary files displays:
