Manage SCM policy engine errors

Data source polling errors

When viewing compliance results, the table of Rules with unknown status contains a column that displays a warning sign to indicate any problems. If you click the Rule name link for one of these rules with a noted problem, you are directed to the Rule details view for that rule. Under the Evaluation tab, the warning symbol describes the error and provides a link you can click to Show more details. It may also show additional information below the error, under Evaluation. For example, it may say: No data to evaluate. Some required data sources could not be polled.

If you click the Show more details link, an expanded Data source polling error detail opens. It displays further information about the error.

Data source polling error detail

Polling errors such as Script timed out, Agent missing, or Unexpected polling error can occur in SCM while polling the data sources needed for evaluation of the policy rule. Reading this error details often helps to resolve the problem. For instance, in this example, the issue appears to indicate that the user needs to assign new credentials to this policy to resolve the error.

Evaluation errors

Evaluation errors occur after a successful polling during evaluation of the rule. This type of error happens rarely because they are caused by either an error in the policy definition itself (for instance, invalid regex) or unexpected data types in the data source. The detail dialog provides more information:

Unknown errors

Unknown errors can occur even when there are no noted problems.
