Import maps

This SolarWinds Platform topic applies only to the following products:

Hybrid Cloud Observability EssentialsHybrid Cloud Observability Advanced

DPAIMEOCNAMNCMNPMNTASAMSRMUDTVMANVNQM

If you created maps in Network Atlas, you can import them to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console. You can also import wireless heat maps.

Requirements

  • Your user account needs to have the Allow management of Intelligent Maps right enabled. See Define what users can access and do in Intelligent Maps.

  • The map you want to import must contain at least one network object, such as an entity or node. Empty maps cannot be imported.

  • When importing nested maps, either import both parent and child map together, or import the nested map first.

  • If a map contains the same node (graphic) twice, it will only be imported once, in the position it was added most recently.

  • Importing wireless heat maps is not supported if you are using Intelligent Maps in EOC. EOC does not support wireless heat maps.

What you can import

  • Nodes (entities, interfaces)

  • Shapes (triangles, squares, circles, rectangles)

  • Lines (straight or curved)

  • Labels

  • Images

  • Background images and background colors

  • Map properties, such as size, color, font, alignment

  • Map objects

  • User graphics

  • Shadow nodes

Displaying shadow nodes on Intelligent Maps requires configuration.

Unsupported objects

Network Atlas graphics and bendy links are not supported.

Import maps

  1. In SolarWinds Platform Web Console, click My Dashboards > Home > Maps. If you have Network Atlas maps available, you can see the Import button in the button bar.

  2. Click Import.

  3. On Import Map, select the map to be imported and click Next.

You can import both network maps and wireless heat maps.

  4. Optional: Specify import settings.

    • Keep original node size - select this option to keep the size of imported icons the same as in Network Atlas. If not selected, node icons are adjusted to the default size (50 x 50 pixels)

    • Keep custom icons - select if you used custom icons in Network Atlas and want to keep using them in Intelligent Maps.

  5. Click Import.

  6. Review the report and click Finish. The map is imported to Intelligent Maps and you can display it in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.

Display shadow nodes in Intelligent Maps

By default, only nodes monitored with SolarWinds Platform are displayed on maps. To include unknown or unmanaged entities in Intelligent Maps, do the following:

  1. Go to Advanced settings and search for "ShadowNodes" on the Global tab.

To access advanced settings, append the following to the hostname/IP address of your SolarWinds Platform Web Console in the browser: /Orion/Admin/AdvancedConfiguration/Global.aspx

  2. Select the IncludeShadowNodes box and save your settings.

Unknown or unamanged entities will be displayed on Intelligent Maps.
