Documentation forLog Analyzer
Analyzing logs is a key capability of SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted (formerly Hybrid Cloud Observability) and is available in the Essentials edition. Log Analyzer (LA) is also available in a standalone module.

Explore the LA Log Viewer

LA allows you to efficiently monitor and review logs from nodes monitored by your SolarWinds Platform products. In the LA Log Viewer, you can access your event stream, filter and search event logs, tag or drop event types, and more. To access the Log Viewer in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console, navigate to My Dashboards > Logs > Log Viewer.

Number Item Description
1 Filters

The Filters pane displays all filters you can apply to LA event messages. All filters are stored in groups. To apply a filter to the events table, click to expand a filter group, and then select a filter. The events table refreshes and displays the incoming events allowed by the filter conditions. Click the Hide Pane icon to collapse the pane, or the Show Pane icon to expand it.

2 Events The Events table displays events that exist for your selected filter, live and historical. The Filters pane displays the total number and names of applied filters. In Live Mode, events stream into the viewer as they occur in your network. Enter Live filter keywords in tandem with the Filters pane to monitor specific activity. Select a specific event to view the associated details in the Entry Details pane.
3 Histogram

The histogram chart presents a graphical view of the number of logs processed during a designated time. At the top of the chart, click the time frame link to open the custom time picker, and then select a quick pick option, or specify your own date and time range. To further refine your search results, drag your mouse pointer over a section of the histogram. The histogram and log table both refresh to display logs within the selected time frame.

4 SolarWinds Platform Web Console menu bar Use the SolarWinds Platform Web Console menu bar to access integrated SolarWinds Platform products and functions, view your notifications, log out, and launch the Success Center.
5 Log Viewer toolbar Use the Log Viewer toolbar to start and stop Live Mode, access your log processing configuration rules, show or hide the histogram chart, and export search results.
6 Entry Details The Entry Details pane displays specific information about the last event you selected in the Events table. When you click an event, the event is highlighted in the Entry Details pane along with supporting information. This action stops live event streaming. Click one or more entry details filter icons to apply additional conditions to your current filter set. To return to Live Mode, click Start Live Mode in the Log Viewer toolbar.
