IP Address Manager 2022.3 System Requirements

Release date: September 28, 2022

SolarWinds strongly recommends that you install the SolarWinds Platform on a server that is neither public, nor internet-facing. To learn about best practices for configuring your SolarWinds Platform installation securely, see Secure Configuration for the SolarWinds Platform.

These system requirements define the minimum requirements for IPAM 2022.3 and its integration with the IPAM as a single installed product.

For additional information on requirements and configurations, see the Multi-module system guidelines. You should also review your product administration guides and release notes for the exact product requirements beyond these minimums.
We also recommend reviewing the IPAM 2022.3 Release Notes and the IPAM 2022.3 Release Notes.

Hard drive space 2 GB 5 GB 20 GB
Memory 4 GB 8 GB 8 GB

Because IPAM uses SNMP to monitor your network, if you are unable to dedicate a network interface card to your SolarWinds server, you may experience gaps in monitoring data because of the low priority generally assigned to SNMP traffic.

Database server (SQL Server) requirements

The following table lists software and hardware requirements for your SolarWinds Platform database server using SolarWindsNPM license levels.

The SolarWinds server and the SolarWinds Platform database must use separate servers.

If you install on a virtual machine, you must maintain your SQL Server database on a separate, physical drive.

As of IPAM 2019.2, you can use Azure SQL as your database server.

As of IPAM 2018.2, you can use Amazon RDS as your database server.

SQL Server

Express, Standard, or Enterprise versions of the following:

  • SQL Server 2016, SP1, SP2
  • SQL Server 2017 (including installations on Linux)
  • SQL Server 2019 (including installations on Linux)

For evaluation only:

  • MSSQL Express

End-of-support notice: IPAM products are no longer compatible with SQL Server 2012, 2012 SP1, 2012 SP2, 2012 SP3, and 2012 SP4. To use new features introduced since IPAM 2018.4, upgrade your environment at your earliest convenience.

Recommendations

  • SolarWinds recommends that you use Express versions only for evaluations, very small environments, and EOC.
  • If you use MSSQL Express for evaluation:
    • use the IPAM1000 license
    • do not alter the default polling settings

  • Because of latency, SolarWinds does not recommend installing your SQL Server and your IPAM server or additional polling engine in different locations across a WAN. For more information, see Install SolarWinds software and SolarWinds database (SQL Server) across a WAN.

  • Use 64-bit version of SQL Server.
  • Use the Simple database recovery mode to ensure best performance.
  • You can set the database recovery model to Full Recovery if your SolarWinds Database is hosted on a SQL Cluster or if you use Always On Availability. However, you must back up your database regularly and ensure that volume you store your transaction log has free space that is at least equal to or greater than the size of your SolarWinds database. Your transaction logs will continue to grow indefinitely until a database backup is performed and the transactions committed to the database. We recommend daily database backups when you use the Full Recovery model.
  • Either mixed-mode or SQL authentication must be supported.
  • If you are managing your SolarWinds database, SolarWinds recommends that you install the SQL Server Management Studio component.
  • If your SolarWinds IPAM product installs SQL Server System CLR Types, a manual restart of the SQL Server service for your SolarWinds database is required.
  • Use the following database select statement to check your SQL Server version, service pack or release level, and edition:

select SERVERPROPERTY ('productversion'), SERVERPROPERTY ('productlevel'), SERVERPROPERTY ('edition')

SQL Server collation
  • English with collation setting SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
  • English with collation setting SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CS_AS
  • German with collation setting German_PhoneBook_CI_AS
  • Japanese with collation setting Japanese_CI_AS
  • Simplified Chinese with collation setting Chinese_PRC_CI_AS

We support CI database on an CS SQL Server.

We do not support case-sensitive databases.
