Documentation forVirtualization Manager
Monitoring virtual environments is a key capability of Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and is also available in a standalone module, Virtualization Manager (VMAN). Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and VMAN are built on the self-hosted SolarWinds Platform.

Set up a VMAN alert to trigger from a VMware alarm

To set up VMAN alerts that trigger from VMware alarms, create a new alert from the Orion Web Console.

To get started, navigate to the alert manager. Click Settings > All Settings in the menu bar. Under Alerts & Reports, click Manage Alerts.

Begin creating a new alert and set alert properties as you would for any other SolarWinds Platform alert. At the Trigger Condition step of the wizard, set the following settings:

  • I want to alert on: VMware Triggered Alarm.
  • The scope of alert: All objects in my environment
  • The actual trigger condition: All child conditions must be satisfied (AND)
  • 1st child condition: Virtual Cluster, Cluster ID, is not empty
  • 2nd child condition: VMware Triggered Alarm, Name (VMware Alarm Definition), contains, Virtual SAN Health Alarm (or other type of alarm)

Continue following the steps in the wizard as usual, until you reach the Trigger Actions step.

For the Trigger Actions step, create a message to give you specific information about the triggered alert. You can customize the message to fit your needs. Tip: Use the Insert Variable button to add variables to your message.

Here is an example message that you can start with:

Cluster: ${N=SwisEntity;M=Cluster.OrionCluster.Name}
Alarm: ${N=SwisEntity;M=Alarm.Name}
Alarm description: ${N=SwisEntity;M=Alarm.Description}

${N=Alerting;M=AlertName} was triggered.

After creating a message, click Next. Follow the rest of the steps in the wizard to finish the alert.
