Dashboards or views

This topic applies to all SolarWinds Platform products.

SolarWinds Platform Web Console dashboards, or views, are configurable pages of network information that can include maps, charts, summary lists, reports, events, links to other resources, or other widgets.

The SolarWinds Platform Web Console is built of default dashboards. You can customize these pages, or create new ones from scratch.

To customize views, or dashboards, the user must have the following privileges set to Yes:

  • Manage Dashboards to create, customize, and delete dashboards owned by the logged-in user.
  • Manage Views to also manage classic dashboards.
  • Allow Administrator Rights to create, customize, and delete both private and public dashboards.

Views or classic dashboards

In Orion Platform 2019.4 and earlier, these pages are called views.

To manage views in Orion Platform 2019.4 and earlier, click Settings > All Settings > Manage Views in the Views section.

In Orion Platform 2020.2 and later, these pages are called classic dashboards.

To manage dashboards, click Settings > Manage Dashboards/Views. You can manage both classic and modern dashboards on Manage Dashboard.

The Manage Views page was removed in Orion Platform 2020.2.

There are two types of views, based on information they display:

  • Summary views provide data about multiple objects.
  • Detail views provide more information for a specific object.

See How custom views/classic dashboards work in the SolarWinds Platform for details.

Modern dashboards

In Orion Platform 2020.2, a new data-driven dashboard framework was introduced. These pages are called modern dashboards.

To manage modern dashboards, click Settings > Manage Dashboards/Views.

See Customize modern dashboards for details.

User rights introduced in Orion Platform 2020.2.5

Manage Dashboards and Manage Views enable you to manage classic dashboards. These privileges also enable you to create, customize, and delete dashboards owned by the logged-in user.

Allow Administrator Rights enable you to create, customize, and delete both private and public dashboards.

  • Manage Dashboards to create, customize, delete, and import/export dashboards owned by the logged-in user.
  • Allow Administrator Rights to create, customize, delete, and import/export both private and public dashboards.

Users without any of the above rights can only view both public dashboards and dashboards they are owners of.

Users without Manage Dashboards rights cannot access the Manage Dashboards page, so to access dashboards, they must be provided with its valid URI. Owned dashboards must be created and assigned by users with appropriate rights.
