Create nested maps in Orion Maps
This Orion Platform topic applies only to the following products:
DPAIM — EOC — NAM — NCM — NPM — NTA — SAM — SRM — UDT — VMAN — VNQM
Nested maps allow you to create a hierarchical visualization with multiple levels of detail. For example, a map depicting specific regional sites can include a child map of the American region (named "AMER" in the following image).
Clicking the AMER region on a map widget opens the nested map in the full-screen, interactive View mode. In turn, the map of AMER can become a parent map to another map, such as a Denver Network.
In View mode, click or hover over the nested map to access information related to the map's members. You can drill down further by clicking View Map or clicking the map name in the Inspector Panel. Each child map can include a view of the next level of devices or other maps deployed on it.
The number of objects and image resolutions may affect map performance in the Orion Web Console. If your maps load slowly, decrease the number of map objects.
Create a Nested Map
Nested maps are created using the Orion Maps Design Tool. Open Orion Maps from My Dashboards and create a new map or select an existing map.
When constructing nested maps, start by building the most granular level maps first and then building the parent level map.
Create and save the child map to be nested.
Open in the map editor, or create, the parent map.
In the Entity Library for the parent map, change the drop-down menu to Orion Maps.
Only maps saved by a user with Node Management rights are visible in the Entity Library list. These maps are saved as a map with status.
Click and drag the child map from the group onto the parent map canvas. Position the child map on the parent map canvas.
Save the parent map. Repeat as necessary for desired number of nested maps. Once you have placed all map objects, you can customize object icons, text, and more from the Properties panel.
