Alert preconfiguration tasks in the SolarWinds Platform

Some alerts require extra configuration, separate software installations, or information that you may need to request from other departments.
Alert actions that require set up before creating or configuring alerts include:
- Send an email or page in the SolarWinds Platform
- Dial a paging or SMS service in the SolarWinds Platform
- Play a sound when an alert is triggered in the SolarWinds Platform
- Send an SNMP trap in the SolarWinds Platform
- Use the speech synthesizer to read alerts in the SolarWinds Platform
Monitored objects in the SolarWinds Platform database must exist before creating or configuring alerts. Monitored objects can include items such as nodes, databases, and applications.
Required permissions for setting up alert actions
Configuring alert actions requires different permissions for setting up credentials.
Users without administrator privileges may set up credentials for these actions:
- Execute an external program in the SolarWinds Platform
- Execute an external Visual Basic script in the SolarWinds Platform
You need administrator privileges for the following actions:
- To set up credentials for Send a GET or POST request through HTTP or HTTPS in the SolarWinds Platform.
- To add a new SMTP server in Send an email or page in the SolarWinds Platform.
