SolarWinds Service Desk January 2024 release notes

Release date: January 21, 2024

These release notes describe the new features and improvements in SolarWinds Service Desk (SWSD). In addition, they provide information about upgrades and detailed workarounds for known issues.

If you are looking for earlier release notes for SWSD, see previous release notes.

Customer action required

Customers need to upgrade OpenSSL to version 3.

If your organization uses any version of Ubuntu earlier than 22.04, you need to update OpenSSL to version 3.0 and update the SWSD agent. This will ensure you continue to get security fixes for OpenSSL and that the agent will continue to work properly. See Agent installation for Linux.

New features

  • See other approvers' comments in the portal. SolarWinds added a new Approval Details pane to the right when you are viewing an approval in the portal.

When someone adds a comment to an approval task, the comments are visible in the portal on the My Tasks index page. There you can see the number of other approvers with their names and titles. You can also choose to hide or show their comments. See My tasks and approvals.

  • Installation of the Discovery scanner and agent are now supported on Windows 11. See Agent installation for Windows and Scanner installation.

  • Updated At is available via API and as a filter in the application. You can now pull API reports and filter page views to show which objects have been added, disabled, or updated. In addition, the Updated At field can be used as a filter with these modules: change catalog, contracts, configuration items, incidents, purchase orders, service catalog, tasks, and Users. See API documentation and List view.

  • Convert a service request to an incident. See instructions in Incidents index table.

  • Ability to set the description on a new record created via automation rules. Automation rules that trigger the creation of a new incident or change record can now include a new variable called Description. When added to an action that creates a new record, the Description field from the original object appears in the newly created record. See Automations.

Improvements

  • Management of default assignees for ESM organizations and sites is has moved to the service provider level. Each service provider can now manage default assignees themselves using the Organization & Sites menu. See Organization & sites.

  • Creation of new ESM service providers now includes default configurations to give you a foundation for your new provider account.

  • Users can see a list of related items even when not permitted to view them. Throughout SWSD, if an object page includes related items, the Related Items tab shows an accurate count of how many related items are associated with the current object. You can see also see both the related items the user has permission to view and those the user doesn't have permission to view. A message identifies related items that are not viewable.

This improvement lets users gain a more complete picture of how many records (items) are related to the current object. Object pages where the feature is available include incidents, problems, changes, releases, and solutions.
