Documentation forNetwork Performance Monitor

Monitor Meraki switches

Track performance, availability, and topology metrics for your Meraki switches.

To start monitoring, add the device. After you add the node, you can view details in Node Details view or see the switches on topology maps.

Supported polling methods

SolarWinds recommends API-only polling if SNMP polling is not possible. API-only polling provides less information. For example, with API-only polling, you will not have information about interface errors.

You can poll Meraki devices in the following ways.

SNMP

All details are polled through SNMP from individual devices.

Add the device for monitoring via SNMP as a node.

API-only

All details are polled through API from the orchestrator.

Both orchestrator and edge devices are standard nodes. If you use API-only polling, both device types count toward your license.

  1. Add the orchestrator for monitoring. Use Orchestrator: API > Meraki as the polling method. See Add Meraki orchestrator.

    1. In the web console, select Settings > Manage Nodes.

    2. Click Add Node.

    3. In Polling Method, select Orchestrators: API, and then select Meraki Devices.

    4. Provide the API key for your organization and complete the Add Node wizard.

  2. Add the switch as an edge device. While adding it, select Use API polling only. See Add Meraki devices connected to the orchestrator.

    1. On the details page for the orchestrator node, find the Management widget and click Discover Meraki Devices.

    2. Select Use API polling only.

When you use an orchestrator for getting information about your switches, you can also select a combination of API and SNMP polling. For polling Meraki switches, you will get exactly the same details as with SNMP polling.

    3. Ensure that switches are selected in the next pop-up.

The Network Sonar Discovery wizard will start automatically and discover entities polled by the orchestrator. Complete the discovery wizard and import selected items for monitoring

Switch from SNMP to API-only

If you monitor a Meraki switch using SNMP and want to switch to API-only, complete the following steps.

  1. Unmanage the switch. See Delete devices from monitoring.

  2. Add orchestrator for monitoring.

  3. Add the switch as an edge device through API-only.
