Change your domain name after company acquisition
On this page
Introduction
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for changing the domain name Service Desk uses. This information is most frequently used when a company is acquired and needs to begin using a new company name and domain.
User provisioning and SSO changes
-
Stop any provisioning and SSO to avoid the creation of duplicate accounts.
This step helps avoid creating duplicate accounts. When an email using the new email address is received by Service Desk before the user's profile is updated, Service Desk creates a duplicate account. See Single sign-on and provisioning.
-
Update all the accounts in Service Desk to the new domain to avoid duplication of accounts.
This step is essential to avoiding duplication. The email addresses need to be changed while provisioning and SSO is off. See Users.
This can be done manually or via API, or through CSV - Import and Update.
-
Turn provisioning and SSO on again using the new email addresses to provision and authorize SSO.
After existing accounts have been updated to the new domain and naming conventions, services can be enabled once again.
API service account changes
You only need to update the service account email address. Changing the email address does not change the token.
