Release date: February 6, 2024
Here's what's new in Patch Manager 2024.1.
Patch Manager runs on the SolarWinds Platform.
New features and improvements in Patch Manager
Patch Manager 2024.1 includes the new features in version 2024.1 of the SolarWinds Platform. For more information, see the SolarWinds Platform 2024.1 Release Notes.
Improved managed computers inventory
When you generate a managed computers inventory of hardware and software resources in your organizational units, the inventory now reflects a dynamic inventory of all resources.
When you decommission computers that report to the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) server, the managed computers inventory reflects these changes and provides an accurate inventory of all commissioned computers. This feature ensures that you have an accurate license count, minimizing license errors.
Improved Computer Explorer
When you access Computer Explorer window in the Patch Manager Console, the tab items are no longer grayed out when the SolarWinds WMI Providers are installed and enabled on the Patch Manager server.
The SolarWinds WMI Providers provide additional management and inventory tools that are not native to WSUS. Without them, you can only use Patch Manager to interface with WSUS and not directly with any managed clients.
This release adds support for the following Microsoft software:
- SCCM 2207
For information about new features and fixes in the SolarWinds Platform, see the SolarWinds Platform 2024.1 Release Notes.
You can now use an organization unit (OU) rule for a ring credential. Populate the default credential ring includes instructions for adding credentials using the OU rule.
When you import computers from an Active Directory group, the import now includes all nested groups.
You can now push security updates to managed computers running Microsoft Windows 2022.
The Windows Update History tab now displays all installed updates and matches the PowerShell update history output.
When you generate a managed computer's inventory of hardware and software resources in your organizational units, the inventory is now a dynamic inventory of all resources.

To activate Patch Manager in an existing SolarWinds Platform deployment, use the License Manager.
For upgrades, go to Settings > My Deployment to initiate the upgrade. The SolarWinds Installer upgrades your entire deployment (all SolarWinds Platform products and any scalability engines).
For more information, see the SolarWinds Platform Product Installation and Upgrade Guide.
Supported upgrade paths to 2024.1:
- Versions 2020.2.1 and later: Upgrade directly to version 2024.1.
- Versions earlier than 2020.2.1: First upgrade to version 2020.2.6, and then upgrade to version 2024.1. Before upgrading, see Considerations for upgrading from the Orion Platform to the SolarWinds Platform.
Version 2024.1 is the last release that will support a direct upgrade from 2020.2.1 or 2020.2.4. If you choose to stay on 2020.2.1 or 2020.2.4, you will be required to upgrade to 2024.1 before you can upgrade to a later release.
