Monitor service assurance

In SolarWinds Observability SaaS, you can monitor network service assurance by collecting and viewing service assurance operations generated on supported network devices. These operations provide visibility into service performance and availability using active, device‑based measurements.

Requirements

  • To monitor network service assurance data in SolarWinds Observability SaaS, ensure one of the following is available:

    • An on‑premises Network Collector 2026.1.1 or later (Site Collector)

    • A Platform-connected SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted) 2026.1.1 or later with an IP SLA license

  • The devices must be configured for network service assurance operations.

  • The devices must be Juniper RPM or Cisco devices and must support SNMP v2 or v3. To confirm that the Cisco IOS release for your device supports network service assurance operations, go to the Cisco Feature Navigator, and search for IP SLAs - DHCP Operation.

  • The devices must be added for monitoring in the Network Collector or Platform-connected SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted. See Add a single network device (Network Collector).

  • Service assurance operations must be defined in the web console (Network Collector or Platform-connected SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted).

To manage the operations, go to the web console, click Settings > All Settings, and then click VoIP & Network Quality (VNQM) Settings in the Product-Specific Settings area. See Network Service Assurance management in SolarWinds VNQM Administrator Guide.

Enable service assurance monitoring from Platform-connected SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted

To monitor service assurance managed in SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted, configure Platform Connect to stream data to SolarWinds Observability SaaS.

To use Platform Connect, a commercial SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted license must be activated on your SolarWinds Platform server.

  1. Copy or create an API token (Ingestion type), found in the settings area of SolarWinds Observability SaaS. See API Tokens for details.

  2. In the SolarWinds Platform Web Console settings, open Platform Connect.

  3. Install and configure the SolarWinds Observability Agent, using the API token created earlier.

See Connect SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted to SolarWinds Observability SaaS with Platform Connect for details.

  4. On the Configure Agent screen, ensure IP SLA Operations are enabled.

After Platform Connect setup, the service assurance data from SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted is available in SolarWinds Observability SaaS.

Monitor service assurance

Service assurance operations automatically appear under Network > Service Assurance, where they are correlated with:

  • Network device health

  • Alerts and events

  • Network topology and relationships

This unified view helps you understand service performance in the context of the broader network.

Detailed operation insights

Each service assurance operation includes a dedicated details page with:

  • Operational status and vendor metadata

  • Source and target endpoints

  • Round‑trip and quality metrics

  • Historical performance charts

Contextual navigation and correlation

From any service assurance operation, you can drill down to:

  • The originating network device

  • Related alerts and events

  • Connected network entities

Alert on service assurance metrics

You can alert on service assurance data in the following ways:

  • Directly on a service assurance operation: Create alerts using specific metrics with static or dynamic thresholds.

  • From the underlying network device: Trigger alerts based on the relationship between a device and its service assurance operations.
