Database monitoring
Database monitoring collects data about the performance, stability, and overall health of your monitored databases to address and prevent issues, and provides deep database performance monitoring to drive speed, efficiency, and savings. SolarWinds Observability supports MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Redis database instances.
Database performance, responsiveness, and error rate is displayed in dashboards and alerts can be configured to notify you by email or other methods when user-defined thresholds are crossed. Use this data to identify and remedy issues before they can develop.
How it Works
Install the SolarWinds Observability Agent on your host server to monitor key host metrics. The SolarWinds Observability Agent collects detailed information about the database instance(s) on your host server and sends that data to SolarWinds Observability.
The SolarWinds Observability Agent is simple to install, efficient, and self-managing; it captures all queries with minimal impact. Depending on database and installation type, SolarWinds Observability captures data by inspecting the database network traffic or from database statistics tables.
When SolarWinds Observability displays data, each data point is an average of all of the collected results within the selected time period. SolarWinds Observability does not fill missing data points before calculating the displayed average.
During metric calculation, other SolarWinds products, such as SolarWinds DPM, fills in missing data points with 0 before calculating an average. There are noticeable differences between SolarWinds Observability and DPM for recorded queries that do not report many data points within the selected time period.
Monitor a database in SolarWinds Observability
After you set up monitoring for your host, you can monitor your database instance. See Configure a Database Instance for more information.
Use the Databases area overview to view metric data gathered from all your monitored databases.
Use the Entity Explorer to view a list of your observed databases. The collected metric data about database health and performance is available for analysis in the widgets in the database entity's Overview tab.
The measurements gathered from your databases can also be reviewed for further analysis using the Metrics Explorer.
Use the Queries Explorer to see a list of observed queries and related details. Group the top 10 through 200 queries by varying metrics with the Profiler to identify troublesome queries or queries that need optimization.
