Understand WPM licensing

Licensing for many SolarWinds Platform products is based on the amount of monitored nodes, but WPM licensing is based on the number of transactions assigned to transaction locations that host WPM Players. Also called "player locations," transaction locations can be on the main SolarWinds Platform server or on remote servers with connectivity to the Orion server.

Perpetual and subscription license types are available. See Licensing model for SolarWinds Platform products for details. Use the License Manager to activate, deactivate, upgrade, or assign licenses.

WPM is licensed by the total number of implemented transactions, regardless of whether transactions are managed or unmanaged. The number of used licenses is calculated by multiplying the number of recordings by the number of locations assigned.

  • 5 transactions at 1 location = 5 licenses
  • 5 transactions at 3 locations = 15 licenses

Recordings saved to Pingdom do not count against a WPM license but do count against Pingdom subscription entitlements.
