Automox integration
On this page
Introduction
Automox is a patch and endpoint management system that lets you automate patching, configuration, and control across your endpoints with a single platform.
Supported endpoints include Windows, macOS, and Linux. Licenses from Automox are required.
By integrating with Automox, your agents can run available patches that allow them to:
- Troubleshoot and fix end user computer issues via patching.
- Confirm computer security compliance.
- Perform tasks like restarting a computer.
If your organization has integrated Automox with Service Desk, a Policy Compliance column is visible on the Active Computers index page to show whether computers comply with your organization's policy.
For details on what agents can do using Automox, see Agent actions with Automox.

Integrate Automox with Service Desk
-
Obtain an API key from your Automox account. See Automox guidance on Managing Organization Keys.
SolarWinds recommends that in Automox you name the API key something for easy management, for example, SolarWinds Service Desk. -
After generating the key, copy it from Automox, go to Service Desk, and navigate to Setup > Integrations > Automox.
-
On the Automox Integration page, under Automox activation, enter the API key you received from Automox, and click Authorize Key.
After authorization, you can see new options for selecting zone(s) from Automox to Service Desk.
-
Under Automox integration zones, click the Select zone radio button, and select SolarWinds.
Optionally, you can click the All zones radio button and specify which Automox zones to use in the integration.
Updates occur every 24 hours.
After the SolarWinds Service Desk Discovery Agent is added to a device, the device reports back to your Service Desk account. The device's serial number then exists in both Automox and Service Desk, allowing agents to perform actions on the device.
NOTE: It can take up to 24 hours for the Automox button to be available in Service Desk for a newly created computer.
-
Under Automox management on computers, configure user access.
Available options are read only for compliance and perform actions. Specify which users have access: all users, specific groups, specific individuals.Available actions:
- Scan Device. Scans the device to see if patches are available. If patches are available, a Scan Complete pop-up message appears, and the agent can click More Details to see which patches are available. From there, the agent can install each patch by clicking it.
- Reboot Device.
- Run All Patches.
- Run Critical Patch. Critical patches are identified based on policies set in Automox.
How the integration works
Prerequisites:
- Automox subscription
- Installation of the Automox agent on computers.
- Installation of the Service Desk Discovery Agent on computers.
The Automox agent allows endpoint management and processes commands.
-
The Service Desk Discovery Agent populates device information into Service Desk.
-
Service Desk uses a device’s serial number as its unique identifier, and matches the serial number in Service Desk to a serial number in Automox.
-
Service Desk sends commands to Automox, which sends commands to the Automox agent. Automox then performs the command actions.
