Credentials

The Credentials page lists all network and infrastructure credentials used to monitor network devices, hosts, and virtual devices through Network Collectors. You can search for credentials by display name or filter them by credential type.

Add credentials

You can add SNMP and WMI credentials when adding nodes or hosts, or when discovering devices on your network.

Review where credentials are used

  1. In SolarWinds Observability, click Settings > Credentials.

  2. Find the credential to review.

    • Enter a search term in the search bar.

    • Click Network or Infrastructure to narrow the list, then optionally filter by credential type.

  3. View usage details:

    1. Select a credential to open the usage panel.

    2. To view details about an entity that uses the credentials, click the entity name on the usage panel to open the entity details view.

Edit credentials

You must have the Owner or Admin role to edit credentials. See Permissions.

You can edit SNMPv2, SNMPv3, and WMI credentials.

  1. In SolarWinds Observability, click Settings > Credentials.

  2. Find the credential to edit.

  3. Click the vertical ellipsis next to the credential and click Edit.

  4. In the dialog, you can:

    • Update the display name for the selected credential.

    • Edit available values based on credential type:

      1. Enable the Change credential toggle.

      2. Edit the available values:

        • SNMPv2: You can update the Display Name and Community String.

        • SNMPv3: You can edit the Display Name and User Name. Optionally, you can configure:

          • SNMPv3 context - the management information you want to access.

          • Authentication Method (MD5, SHA1, SHA256, or SHA512) and Password.

If your devices use an authentication key, select the Password is a key box.

          • Privacy/Encryption Method (DES56, AES 128, AES 192, or AES 256) and Password.

If your devices use an encryption key, select the Password is a key box.

        • WMI: You can edit the Display Name, Username, and Password.

      3. (Optional): Validate the updated credentials against devices that use them.

  5. Click Save to apply the changes.

Delete credentials

You must have the Owner or Admin role to delete credentials. See Permissions.

  1. In SolarWinds Observability, click Settings > Credentials.

  2. Find the credential to delete.

  3. Click the vertical ellipsis next to the credential and click Delete.

  4. In the confirmation dialog, select Remove Network Devices and Hosts if the credential is in use.

Selecting this option removes both the credential and network devices/hosts that use it. This avoids broken monitoring and missing metrics.

  5. Click Delete.

SolarWinds Observability deletes the credential and the selected devices/hosts.
