Monitor custom statistics

On your Network Collector, you can define custom statistics (pollers) and assign them to monitored devices. See Poll custom statistics on monitored devices.

Currently, SolarWinds Observability SaaS supports only Scalar Raw Status pollers. To see accurate results, use pollers that return a single raw numeric value.

Review custom statistics for specific nodes

1. In SolarWinds Observability SaaS, locate the node in the Entity Explorer.

2. Click the UNDP tab. The view shows widgets with all metrics collected by custom pollers assigned to the node.

3. To alert on a metric, click the vertical ellipsis in the metric widget and select Create Alert. Complete the alert definition.

   

Review custom statistics for specific pollers

In Metrics Explorer, search for the sw.collector.CustomPollerStatistics.RawStatus metric.

Group by sw.collector.CustomPollerAssignmentOnNode.DisplayName and sw.collector.NodesDisplayName to see all custom poller metrics for all assigned devices.

Create alerts for a single custom poller metric

1. In SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted, go to the details page of a network device where you poll the metric you want to alert on.

2. Open the UNDP tab. Metrics polled by the custom poller are displayed as individual widgets.

3. Click the vertical ellipsis in the metric widget you want to alert on and click Create Alert. The wizard will open with relevant fields pre-filled:

   • Entity type: Network Device.

   • Scope by: Selected Network Devices.

   • Select Network Devices: the device on which you want to be alerted.

   • Metric: sw.collector.CustomPollerStatistics.RawStatus

   • Included tags: sw.collector.CustomPollerAssignmentOnNode.DisplayName is equal to the selected metric.

     

4. Fill in any other mandatory fields, such as Trigger when and Threshold Value.

5. Adjust any pre-filled values that don't apply.

6. Complete the alert definition. See Creating an alert.
