Monitor Ruckus switch stacks
Track the health of individual Ruckus ICX switch stack members, monitor the data connections between them, and quickly identify any members experiencing issues. Built-in events and alerts notify you when a member or the connection between members goes down.
Requirements
-
The switch stack must be added as a monitored node, polled through SNMP (v2c or v3).
-
Stacking must be enabled on the device. To verify, run the
show stackcommand on the switch.
Add switch stacks
Add the switch stack for monitoring as a node. The IP address is always assigned to the master switch (the active unit, highlighted with a crown icon).
When you add or rediscover a Ruckus switch with stacking enabled, the Ruckus switch stack poller (N.SwitchStack.SNMP.Ruckus) is assigned automatically. After an upgrade, the poller is enabled automatically for Ruckus switches that you already monitor.
To stop polling switch stack data, disable the poller on the Manage Pollers page.
Limitations
- Ruckus switch stacks do not support power stacking. No power ring data is collected, and the Power ring status column in the List of Switch Stacks widget displays N/A.
- CPU and memory are not polled for individual stack members.
- Port name resolution requires interfaces to be discovered and monitored.
- Neighbor information for stack ports is available only if the device provides stack topology (neighbor port) data through SNMP.
- A member state other than Ready is displayed as Unknown.
View stack members and rings
When alerted about a switch stack issue, go to the switch stack node details page, and click the switch stack subview.
The subview provides member-specific monitoring with topology maps showing how the data ports are connected, and information to pinpoint switches with issues.
You can quickly see which switch is having issues, locate it by serial number in the stack, and replace it or resolve the issue.
Switch stack events
Events include notifications about the following issues and changes:
- Master number has changed
- Member number changed
- Data ring redundancy has changed
- Member count has changed
- Ring failure has changed
Out-of-the-box alerts for switch stacks
Default alerts inform you about the following items and more:
- Switch stack data ring broken
- Switch stack master changed
- Switch stack member number changed
Not all out-of-the-box alerts are turned on by default.
To be notified about other switch stack events, create an alert based on the switch stack event. See Monitor Cisco switch stack for an example.
Widgets
- List of Switch Stacks - lists monitored switch stacks. By default, this widget is not available on any view.
- Switch Stack Members
- Switch Stack Details
- Switch Stack Member Ports
- Stack Data Ring
