Documentation forNetwork Performance Monitor
Monitoring network performance is a key capability of SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted (formerly Hybrid Cloud Observability) and is available in the Essentials edition. Network Performance Monitor (NPM) is also available in a standalone module.

Network Performance Monitor Thresholds

The levels set on the Network Performance Monitor Thresholds view determine status levels indicated within the SolarWinds Platform Web Console. See Thresholds.

NPM also uses the Orion General Thresholds. For more information, see Orion General Threshold Types.

Network Performance Monitor Thresholds

On this page, you can specify critical and warning levels for global thresholds relevant for NPM:

Cisco Buffer Misses

Many Cisco devices can report buffer misses.

Monitored network devices with more buffer misses than the value set for the Critical Level are displayed as bold red in Cisco Buffer widgets.

Monitored network devices with more buffer misses than the value set for the Warning Level, but fewer than the value set for the Critical Level, are displayed as red in Cisco Buffer widgets.

Interface Errors and Discards

Monitored interfaces with more errors and discards than the value set for the Critical Level are displayed as bold red in High Errors and Discards reports and widgets.

Monitored interfaces with more errors and discards than the value set for the Warning Level, but fewer than the value set for the Critical Level, are displayed as red in High Errors and Discards reports and widgets.

Interface Percent Utilization

Monitored interfaces with current percent utilization higher than the value set for the Critical Level display as bold red in High Percent Utilization reports, widgets, and gauges.

Monitored interfaces with current percent utilization higher than the value set for the Warning Level, but lower than the value set for the Critical Level, are displayed as red in High Percent Utilization reports, widgets, and gauges.

Specify whether you want to calculate exhaustion using average daily values or peak daily values by selecting an option in Capacity Planning. See Monitor capacity usage trends on the network and forecast capacity issues in NPM.

Flapping Routes

Specify thresholds for highlighting flapping routes in the Top Flapping Routes widget.

  • If a route flaps more frequently than specified in Routing Flaps Error Threshold, the current flaps number are highlighted in red.
  • If a route flaps more frequently than specified in Routing Flaps Warning Threshold, the current flaps number are highlighted in yellow.

Network Interface Thresholds

On the Network Interface Thresholds settings page, you can configure global thresholds for relevant only for interfaces. These thresholds are also included in Network Performance Monitor Thresholds settings.
