High Availability for FortiGate firewalls

Use this widget to view high availability information for the FortiGate node, including the active context, high availability type, and last failover details.

FortiGate high availability node statuses

The color of the circle indicates the node status.

Icon Description/Action
Up: The node is up and running.

Warning: The node did not respond to a ping request and is fast-polled for 120 seconds.

Unknown: The node is not monitored. For details, see Troubleshoot nodes and interfaces that are Unknown. Add the node for monitoring to view details, such as the node name.
Down: The node is down. The node did not respond during the fast-poll period of 120 seconds.

Icon labels

Labels next to the icons indicate the high availability statuses and roles configured for FortiGate nodes:

  • Standby/Active

  • Primary/Secondary

FortiGate high availability device statuses

The following high availability statuses are polled on FortiGate devices. Statuses are listed in order of importance, with device issues listed first.

Standby ready (up, down, or unknown)

FortiGate devices (active and standby) see each other and agree that the standby FortiGate is ready for failover.

Configuration state (up, down, or unknown)

Synced: Both FortiGate devices report that the configuration is synchronized.

Not synced: FortiGate devices report that the configuration is not synchronized. If you have NCM installed, click to see the configuration difference.

Connection state sync (up, down, or unknown)

Synced: Both FortiGate devices report that the high availability state is synchronized.

Overall high availability status

The color of the line indicates the overall high availability status:

  • Red (critical): Standby ready is down. Configuration and connection states are not relevant.

  • Yellow (warning): Standby ready is up. Configuration and connection states are down or unknown.

  • Green (up): Standby ready is up. Other states are up or unknown.

  • Gray (unknown): Standby ready is unknown. Other statuses are up or unknown.
