Documentation forNetwork Configuration Manager
Managing network configurations is a key capability of Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and is also available in a standalone module, Network Configuration Manager (NCM). Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and NCM are built on the self-hosted SolarWinds Platform.

Configure NCM user login, device access, and policy report security

Security settings enable you to govern how NCM handles account credentials, using encryption and masking when necessary.

  1. Click Settings > All Settings.
  2. Under Product Specific Settings, click NCM Settings.
  3. Under Security, click Security.
  4. Select the desired password security settings:

    Hide SNMP Community Strings

Hides your SNMP community strings in any area of the application where they would otherwise show.

    Hide Login User Names

Hides a user name during logon.

  5. Click the credential set to be used to allow NCM to connect to devices.

    Global - Device Level

Defaults the device login to the global setting. For more information about configuring device login information, see Configure nodes to use device-level login credentials for NCM connections.

    Individual - User Level

Defaults the device login to the NCM user account. SolarWinds recommends this option so that access to network devices takes advantage of the security inherent in NCM roles. For more information, see Configure nodes to use user-level login credentials for NCM connections.

  6. Select the security settings for compliance policy report management.

Only NCM admin can modify compliance policy reports

Select this option if you want to require the NCM role of Administrator to modify compliance policy reports. If this option is not selected, users with the role WebUploader or higher can modify the reports.

If this option is selected and you use SWIS verbs to access compliance policy reports, both the NCM Administrator role and SolarWinds Platform administrator rights are required. Only the NCM Administrator role is required to manage reports through the user interface.

Bypass approval system for automatic remediation of policy violations

If a policy rule includes a remediation script, select this option if you want the remediation script to run even when an approval system is in place.

  7. Click Submit.
