Interface Monitor tool

The Interface Monitor tool in ETS for the Web captures and analyzes SNMP data to provide real time interface statistics.

You can select monitoring statistics for received (Rx), transmitted (Tx), or both kinds of traffic (Rx + Tx) from the following statistics groups:

  • % utilization
  • Bandwidth
  • Total bytes transferred
  • Error packets
  • Discarded packets

Access the Interface Monitor

  1. Log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console as an administrator.

  2. Click My Dashboards > Toolset > All Tools.

  3. Under My Tools, click Interface Monitor.

You can also launch the Interface Monitor from the object menu of SolarWinds Platform nodes or from the Management resource on the node details view.

Monitor interfaces

  1. On the Configure Interface Monitor page, find the nodes whose interfaces you want to monitor.

  2. Click the + in front of the node to display the available interfaces within the node.

To discover the interfaces in one or more nodes, select the nodes and click Discover All Interfaces.

  3. Select the interfaces you want to monitor.

You can monitor as many resources as your other SolarWinds Platform product licenses can, and additional ten resources from the ETS for the Web license.

  4. From the View Type menu, choose to view the results as a table or a chart.

  5. Click Monitor Interfaces.

  6. Customize the presentation of results. For more information, see Configure charts shown in ETS for the Web tools.

    • Chart or table

If the results are displayed in a table, and you want to see them in a chart, toggle the display mode to Chart. Use the View buttons in the upper-right corner of the page to toggle the presentation of monitoring data.

    • Metrics

Select what statistics you want to view in the chart in the Metrics area.

If the required metrics are not available, you need to add them first. Click Settings > Metrics, and make sure all metrics are in the Available Metrics area.

For more information about settings, see Specify tool-specific settings.

    • Thresholds

If you want the chart to display a threshold, select the threshold in the Show thresholds list.

If the threshold is not available in the list, you need to define it first. Click Settings > Thresholds, select the metric and define the warning and error levels.

Editing the monitor settings resets the monitored data and deletes all data collected so far. After you return to the monitor, you must define the monitored objects again, and the monitoring will restart.
