Configure charts shown in ETS for the Web tools
Engineer's Toolset for the Web can display monitored data in two forms: as a table or as a chart. Charts provide data for selected devices (interfaces, CPUs, and memory items) based on defined metrics not only in a table, but also in a graph.
Areas of a chart
Charts consist of three areas:
-
The chart itself, which is a graphical display of collected data.
-
The Metrics area, which determines what metrics and for what devices (interfaces, CPUs, or memory items) the chart should show. You can also set what thresholds you want to see in the chart.
-
The Detailed Statistics table, which displays the items selected in the Metrics table with numeric values, showing information about current, maximum, minimum, and average values.
Select metrics to be displayed in the chart
The Metrics area contains a list of devices (interfaces, CPUs, and so on) monitored by the selected tool. Under each device is a list of metrics that the chart can display. By default, the chart displays one item: the first metric for the first object you have configured.
To add a metric to the chart, select the gray box next to it. The box changes color to reflect used to represent the metric in the chart. Selected metrics are also shown in the Detailed Statistics table below the chart.
To prevent the chart from being too confusing, the chart is limited to 12 metrics of two metric types. For more information, see Chart limitations.
To change the metrics listed in the Metrics area of a chart, edit the tool-specific settings and update the selections on the Metrics tab. You can also specify the polling interval and the amount of data that a chart can display.
Toggle between chart and table display
To toggle between the chart and the table display, click the View button in the upper-right corner of the tool.
To set the default presentation form for your data, edit personal settings and select the default.
Zoom in on the data
You can either view all collected data, or zoom in to see only the data for the most recent one minute or five minutes. To do so, use the button in the upper-left corner of the chart (1M, 5M, or All).
You can also use the sliders below the chart. Drag the sliders so that the chart shows data for the defined time period.
Show thresholds
In your charts, you can highlight areas that exceed a warning and critical threshold. The area exceeding a warning threshold is highlighted in yellow. Chart areas exceeding a critical threshold are highlighted in red.
You can display only one threshold at a time.
-
Define the threshold in the tool's settings. For more information, see Thresholds in Specify tool-specific settings.
-
Select the threshold in the Show thresholds list in the Metrics area.
If nothing is highlighted in your chart:
-
Make sure you have selected the threshold in the Show thresholds list.
-
Check whether the set warning and critical level fit into the chart. If monitored results for the selected metric are low, the graph might not reach to the threshold values. For example, if monitored results for Utilization are up to 5% utilization, and your threshold is set to 85%.
-
Export charts
To export the chart as a PDF file, click Export > PDF.
You can also export the data in the chart as a CSV or text file. When you export to either of those formats, the data is exported without graphical representation.
Chart limitations
Charts can display a maximum of 12 metrics that belong to a maximum of two metric types.
The metrics in a metric type all use the same unit of measurement. For example, three types of metrics are available for the Interface Monitor:
| Metrics | Unit of measurement | |
|---|---|---|
| Type 1 | % Utilization (Rx, Tx, and Rx+Tx) | Percentage |
| Type 2 | Bandwidth (Rx, Tx, and Rx+Tx) | Bytes per second |
| Type 3 |
Error Packets (Rx, Tx, and Rx+Tx) Discarded Packets (Rx, Tx, and Rx+Tx) |
Packets |
The Y axes (vertical axes) in a chart display the units of measurement for the selected metrics. Each chart can show a maximum of two Y axes, and therefore each chart can display only two types of metrics at the same time. If two metric types are selected, one type is represented by a solid line and the other is represented by a dashed line.
If the Metrics area lists more than two types of metrics, type information is listed at the end of each row.
If two types of metrics are currently selected, you cannot add metrics of a third type. You must remove all metrics of one type before you can add metrics of a different type.
