Specify tool-specific settings
You can specify settings for individual ETS for the Web tools. These settings include how often the tool polls data, and what metrics you can see in the charts. You can also set thresholds for specific metrics to highlight values exceeding a warning and critical threshold in your chart.
Access tool-specific settings
- Launch the tool.
- Click Settings.
Tool-specific settings are divided into tabs, which are described in the following sections.
Metrics (all tools)
On the Metrics tab, specify what metrics you want to be available in the tool chart or table.
To prevent a metric from being shown in a chart or table, select the metric in the Selected Metrics table, and then click the red arrow to move it to the Available Metrics table.
To display a metric in a chart or table, select the metric in the Available Metrics table, and then click the green arrow to move it to the Selected Metrics table.
To change the order of metrics in the charts, select a metric and click the Move Up or Move Down button to reposition it.
Preferences (all monitors)
The Preferences tab in most monitor settings can define how often the monitor polls the required data and how long the polled data are retained.
Polling Interval
The Polling Interval field specifies the frequency of polling data in seconds. The default value is 5 seconds.
Chart Data Retention
In this area, you can limit the amount of data stored by the monitor and displayed in Engineer's Toolset for the Web charts either using time restriction or by limiting the number of displayed items:
-
To limit data retention by time, select Limit the chart data by time. Then enter the time period and select units. The default value is 90 minutes.
-
To limit data retention by data points, select Limit the chart to a specific number of data points. Then enter the maximum points shown in charts. The default and maximum value is 10,000 data points.
Preferences (Trace Route)
Trace Route Preferences define the ICMP timeout, polling interval, and trace details.
ICMP
The ICMP Timeout value specifies the ICMP timeout period in milliseconds. The default value is 2000 milliseconds. The maximum value is 8000 ms.
The Polling Interval field specifies the frequency of polling data in seconds. The default value is 10 seconds.
Trace
The Maximum Number of Hops field specifies the maximum number of hops that should be traced. The default value is 32 hops.
The Resolve DNS option specifies whether IP addresses are resolved to their host names.
Thresholds (all monitors)
Use the Thresholds tab to set thresholds for specific available metrics. If you apply a threshold and specify values for warning and critical levels, charts and tables will indicate when a threshold is exceeded.
Set a threshold for a metric value
- Locate the metric in the Thresholds tab list.
- Select Use threshold.
- Define the Warning level, and select the relationship to the value (for example, greater than or less than).
- Define the Critical level.
Cancel a threshold
- Locate the metric in the Thresholds tab list.
- Deselect the Use threshold box.
Apply your changes
To apply your changes on any tab, do one of the following:
- Click Submit to apply your changes and return to the tool.
- Click Save and Continue Working if you want to adjust more tool-specific settings.
