Get started with Avior
Avior™, the SolarWinds AI agent, provides agentic automation and decision support across the SolarWinds Observability platform.Avior works as your digital teammate: it starts from a goal, builds an understanding of your environment, and orchestrates the tools and actions needed to move that goal forward.

Every user who accesses Avior completes this onboarding flow individually, even users joining an organization that another teammate already connected. If your organization is already connected, Avior automatically completes some steps for you, such as pre‑filling the connector installation and server connection details, so you mainly need to supply your own credentials. If you're interrupted during onboarding, Avior resumes at the step where you left off the next time you sign in.
First time setup by an Owner
During onboarding, you install the Platform Connect Plugin, connect Avior to SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted, review the discovered environment, and personalize your experience. The connector establishes a secure connection between the SolarWinds cloud and applications in your on‑premises environment.
Onboarding additional users
If the plugin has already been installed, onboarding skips all unnecessary steps so that you can just log in and start using Avior.
Log in to Avior
-
When you receive an email inviting you into an Avior organization, accept the invitation.
This will open the following URl in yor browser: https://avior.na-01.cloud.solarwinds.com/.
-
Provide your credentials or create an account.
-
If you have a SolarWinds Observability SaaS account with Platform Connect, enter your existing credentials and click Log In.
If prompted, select the Avior organization to work with.
-
If not, enter your name, set up a password, and click Create account, and then click Continue.
-
By logging in, you agree to the SolarWinds Software Services Agreement and confirm that you are authorized to accept its terms on behalf of your company.
Install the SolarWinds Platform Connect Plugin (first time setup by the Owner)
The first time you sign in, Avior walks you through a short onboarding flow, to install the Platform Connect Plugin. This plugin will communicate with your SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted environment, using SolarWinds Information Service queries via port 17774.
-
On the welcome screen, click Let's get started.
If your organization already has the plugin installed, Avior detects the existing connection. If you're all set, click Continue to go straight to entering your SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted credentials.
-
Review the requirements and click Yes, I understand to confirm that you are aware of them:
- The plugin must be installed on a dedicated host, separately from your SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted deployment.
- You need administrator rights (Windows) or root (Linux).
- The Platform Connect Plugin server must be able to reach the SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted on TCP 17774 and your Avior URL on TCP 443. You may need firewall or proxy changes.
-
Select Windows or Linux to match the server where you will install the plugin.
-
Copy the command shown by the onboarding wizard.
-
Run the generated command on the Platform Connect Plugin server. The command downloads and installs the Platform Connect Plugin and installs the plugin that establishes the connection with the SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted server.
Install the Platform Connect Plugin on a separate machine, not on the SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted server.
-
If you selected Linux, run the generated command on the Platform Connect Plugin server as root or with sudo.
-
If you selected Windows, run the generated PowerShell script on the Platform Connect Plugin server with administrative privileges.
-
-
Return to Avior onboarding page. Wait for Avior to detect the connector.
Keep the onboarding page open while you install the Platform Connect Plugin. Detection can take a short time after the installation finishes. If Avior doesn't detect the connector within about 5 minutes, it stops listening and displays a message. Click Start Listening to resume detection.
-
Click Continue.
Connect SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted
-
In the SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted connection prompt, enter the server URL in one of these formats.
If you're joining an organization that's already connected, this field is pre‑filled and you can skip to the next step.
-
<IP-address>:17774 -
<host-name>:17774
-
-
Enter the username and password for the prepared SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted account. Each user enters their own credentials, even when joining an already connected organization.
-
Click Connect. Avior verifies the connectivity to the server using the credentials you entered and establishes the connection.
-
After the connection status changes to Connected, click Continue.
Avior can now communicate securely from the cloud with SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted through the Platform Connection.
After the connection is established, Avior immediately begins discovering your environment. Review what Avior found during the scan:
- Total nodes — the total count of discovered infrastructure nodes grouped by Up, Warning, Critical, and Down.
- Active alerts — the number of currently firing alerts, including how many have been firing for an extended period.
- Compliance violations — the number of policy or configuration compliance violations found.
Avior isn't starting blind — it builds working context on your environment before it analyzes or acts on anything. If results aren't available right away, Avior retries automatically; you can continue even if results are still loading. Click Continue when you're ready to proceed.
Personalize your experience
Agentic systems work best when they understand who the operator is, what they prioritize, and how much autonomy they're comfortable granting. On the Personalize your experience screen:
-
If your organization settings allow it, select your autonomy level:
-
Conservative: Read-only actions proceed without approval. Any change requires approval.
-
Balanced: Read-only or non-destructive actions proceed without approval. Potentially destructive changes require approval.
-
Autonomous: AlI actions proceed without approval.
-
-
Optionally, enter free‑text preferences, such as your priorities, clusters you care about, or how much detail you want in responses.
-
Click Get Started to finish onboarding and open the Avior home page.
The purpose of the autonomy setting is to let you build trust progressively. Most customers start with tighter controls, observe how Avior behaves and how it explains itself, and then allow more autonomy as their confidence grows. You are not locked into your initial choice — you can adjust autonomy at any time from your personal settings.
Start using Avior
The home page displays a briefing, prioritized environment issues, active goals, recent sessions, and environment information gathered through the connector. From the home page, you can start a session or open goals to view and run available goals.
Avior is a cloud service, so you can access it from anywhere you have an internet connection. Your conversations and sessions are saved in the cloud so you can pick up where you left off.
After onboarding, future visits to your Avior URL open the Avior home page. You can change your role, autonomy level, and preferences later.
Invite users to Avior
After you complete onboarding, you can invite other users to your Avior organization.
-
In Avior, click Settings > Users.
-
Click Invite user.
-
Enter one or more email addresses.
-
Select a user role:
-
Owner: Has full control of the organization, including billing and ownership. The user who creates the organization is automatically the Owner. The Owner can run goals and approve actions.
-

-
