Work with goals

A goal is an outcome that Avior™ maintains on your behalf. Each goal is defined by a prompt and a set of metrics that determine success. Rather than asking you to assemble a workflow manually, Avior proposes outcome‑driven starting points that you can activate, refine, and measure — described in terms your business already understands, such as reducing alert noise or preventing capacity incidents.

You set the goal. The agents do the work. You stay in control.

For currently available goals, see Avior goals.

Goal permissions

Goals are available to everyone in your organization, but each goal belongs to its goal owner, the user who ran it.

  • Only the goal owner can approve or decline the actions a goal suggests.

  • Only the goal owner can pause or resume the goal.

  • Other Avior administrators can view the goal and its suggested actions, but they can’t approve or decline them.

  • Any administrator can deactivate a running goal.

View goal details

  1. Click Goals () in the left navigation to see all goals currently in progress, along with their key metrics and current values.

  2. Click a goal card to open its detail page.

  3. Review the summary:

    • Goal navigation panel with shortcuts to activity, actions, and configuration.

    • Working pane with details of the selected goal item.

    • Goal details, status, and performance.

  4. Click Activity to review the full history for the current iteration: the metrics collected, the findings created (each tagged with a severity such as Critical, High, Medium, or Low), the resulting proposals, and the actions taken.

  5. Use the Actions tab to see a flat list of actions associated with the goal, or Configuration to adjust the goal's settings.

Approve or decline actions

Goals clearly separate the two kinds of actions in every proposal:

  • Agent actions — steps Avior can take by itself, for example provisioning additional capacity on a virtual machine before an operator would otherwise be paged at midnight.
  • Human tasks — steps that require you to act, listed in your Inbox.

Every proposed action lists its expected Benefit and Risk so you can make an informed decision.

  1. Click Actions for the goal and locate the proposal you want to review.
  2. Review details for the proposal, including each underlying agent action.
  3. Click Approve to allow the action (or actions) to run, or Decline to reject them.

This is the balance Avior is designed around: autonomy where it helps, and clear human control where it matters.

As you move your autonomy settings from Conservative to Balanced or Autonomous, Avior runs more routine, low‑risk actions automatically instead of waiting for your approval.

Waiting for approvals

If your autonomy setting is Conservative, Avior finishes analyzing data and plans actions for a specific goal and waits until you've reviewed pending actions. See Set up autonomy.

If you do not want approvals to block the goal schedule, for example if you review actions in batches but still want the goal evaluating on time, change the autonomy settings to Balanced or Autonomous.

With Balanced or Autonomous mode, the goals don't pause to wait for approval and continue on schedule regardless of what is pending. Proposed groups still appear in Inbox and can be approved or declined at any time; they just don’t affect when the goal runs next.

Check whether a pending action group counts as resolved

A group is resolved once one of the following is true:

  • You approved it.
  • You declined it.
  • It was voided (its run was canceled).
  • It is currently executing (already past the approval step).

The goal checks resolution status across the entire run, not just the current iteration, so older groups from earlier iterations will keep a paused goal from resuming.
