Documentation forService Desk

Setup: Labs - See a visual representation of a process workflow

How to use Labs

Features in Labs are temporary. You do not need to test each feature. If your organization might benefit from a new feature and/or enhancement, go to Setup > Labs. In the list of available features, toggle the feature to On.

Some features in Labs are interconnected. You may activate more than one feature simultaneously to maximize the benefit of new Labs offerings.

As new features prove successful, SolarWinds will permanently integrate them into Service Desk. Likewise, if a feature is found to not be beneficial, it will be deleted permanently.

Enable features in Labs

  1. Navigate to Setup > Labs.

ESM customers: navigate to Organization > Setup > Labs.
  2. In the list of available features, toggle the feature(s) of your choice to On.

Introduction to visual representations in workflows

To enable this feature in Labs, navigate to Setup > Labs and enable Graphical Process (Workflow) for all users or specific users.

A visualization represents the workflow in a read-only view. Some people find a visualization helpful in understanding the steps of a workflow.

You cannot edit a workflow from its visual representation. To edit the workflow, switch to the Textual tab.
  1. Open the runbook, service catalog item, or change catalog item.

    • In a service catalog item, click the Process tab, or by clicking Edit in the upper right corner next to the Request button. Then scroll down to the Process section.

    • In a runbook or change catalog item, scroll down to the Process section.

You can see two buttons: Textual and Visual.

    By default, Textual is selected.

  2. Click Visual. There you can see an uneditable visual representation of the process workflow.

In visual mode, you can:

  • Collapse the left sidebar by clicking the small expand icon in the upper left corner of the right pane.

  • Use the zoom feature at the bottom of the visual representation pane.

  • Expand the visual representation by clicking full screen in the upper right corner of the visual representation pane.
