Introduction to Form layout elements and field name truncation control
When creating or editing a form, designers can add one or more layout elements to add visual separation on a form and group information in a way that makes it easier for people to read and follow.
The form layout elements include a title area, a separator/divider, and a title separator. They can be added to out-of-the-box forms and custom forms for change catalog and service catalog items. Form layout elements are not currently available for users, computers, contracts, groups, mobile devices, or other assets.
When a form contains at least one field of any type, you can see the Add buttons in the grey Form fields bar, which appears below the form Description.
Form layout elements
When creating or editing an out-of-the-box form, custom form, change catalog form, or a service catalog item, designers can add one or more layout elements to add visual separation on the form and group information in a way that makes it easier for people to read and follow.
Clicking the Add Layout Element button opens the Add Layout Element in a pane to the right. You can see the different layout elements there.
The form elements include a title area, a separator/divider, and a title separator. You can add them to out-of-the-box forms, custom forms change catalog forms, and service catalog items.
The drag-and-drop feature lets move layout elements (and fields on a custom form).
- The domino
icon to the left of an element selects it so you can move it. - The ellipsis
icon to the right of the title element lets you edit, align, or delete.
You can choose to add a title to the title element before or after you relocate it.
After adding elements, click Save or Update. A green alert appears at the top of the screen so you can open the form for viewing and editing. Review and verify that the structure of the form is what you intended.
Field name truncation control
When creating or editing an out-of-the-box form, custom form, change catalog form or service catalog item, users can configure the number of lines Service Desk can use to display a field name.
By default, the setting allows an unlimited line limit. That limit can be modified to apply to all fields in the form or to specific fields. You can change the limit to 1 line, 2 lines, or 3 lines for the entire form or for a specific field.
To modify the setting within a form:
Click the field name. If the field name is long:
-
Hover your mouse over the field name and click the ellipsis button.
-
Select Set Label Line Limit from the dropdown.
The Set Label Line Limit pane opens to the right. You can change the Label Line Limit and/or apply the limit to all fields in the form.
