Windows Scheduled Tasks status codes

This table includes status codes that may appear in the Windows Schedule Tasks widget.

Hex Code Status Description


The operation completed successfully.


Incorrect or unknown function called.


File not found.


The environment is incorrect.


The task is ready to run at its next scheduled time.


The task is currently running.


The task will not run at the scheduled times because it was disabled.


The task has not yet run.


There are no more runs scheduled for this task.


One or more of the properties needed to run this task on a schedule were not configured.


The last run of the task was terminated by the user.


Either the task has no triggers or the existing triggers are disabled or not set.


Event triggers do not have set run times.


The task is registered, but not all specified triggers will start the task.


The task is registered, but may not start. Enable the Batch log in privilege for the task principal.


The Task Scheduler service has asked the task to run.


Cannot modify or delete an object that was not added using the COM+ Admin SDK.


A task's trigger is not found.


One or more of the properties required to run this task were not configured.


There is no running instance of the task.


The Task Scheduler service is not installed on this computer.


The task object could not be opened.


The object is either an invalid task object or is not a task object.


No account information was found in the Task Scheduler security database for the task indicated.


Unable to establish existence of the account specified.


Corruption was detected in the Task Scheduler security database. The database was reset.


Task Scheduler security services are available only on Windows NT.


The task object version is either unsupported or invalid.


The task was configured with an unsupported combination of account settings and run time options.


The Task Scheduler Service is not running.


The task XML contains an unexpected node.


The task XML contains an element or attribute from an unexpected namespace.


The task XML contains a value which is incorrectly formatted or out of range.


The task XML is missing a required element or attribute.


The task XML is malformed.


The task XML contains too many nodes of the same type.


The task cannot be started after the trigger end boundary.


An instance of this task is already running.


The task will not run because the user is not logged in.


The task image is corrupt or was tampered with.


The Task Scheduler service is not available.


The Task Scheduler service is too busy to handle your request. Please try again later.


The Task Scheduler service attempted to run the task, but the task did not run due to a constraint in the task definition.


The task has properties that are not compatible with earlier versions of Windows.


The task settings do not allow the task to start on demand.


The system cannot find the file specified.


Not valid Win32 application.


The operation was canceled by the user.


The operation being requested was not performed because the user was not logged in to the network. The specified service does not exist.


The application terminated.


An unknown software exception occurred.
