AppInsight for SQL and component-based licensing
Per the SAM licensing model, when using AppInsight for SQL in an environment with a component-based SAM license, 50 component monitors count against your licensed number of component monitors per SQL instance.
AppInsight applications provide tremendous value within SAM while consuming a fixed number component monitor licenses. However, they cannot be partially unlicensed because the way they collect data differs significantly from traditional application monitor templates. You can disable some components within AppInsight applications but that will not reclaim component monitor licenses because AppInsight applications typically monitor far greater than 50 components.
For example, AppInsight for SQL monitors over 120 individual metrics even if there is only one database running on the server. If you don't want to monitor certain metrics, remove the warning and critical thresholds for those components by editing the application. You will not be alerted or notified about those components again and the components will not appear in a warning or critical state in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.
